Blogmas (Day Ten) | All the Series I Started in 2021

I am so terrible at completing series, but I have no trouble starting them! This post is really a way to hold myself accountable and remind me that these are series I started this year and that I need to make decisions on whether or not I want to continue with them. I would love to hear your thoughts on all of these series!

The Strange Case of the Alchemist’s Daughter was a compelling introduction to a series and I really loved these characters and the found family aspect. It was so atmospheric and had a great mystery. I will definitely be continuing on with the series because I need to be with these characters again. Also, Sherlock Holmes and Watson are characters in this story… need I say more!?

I read Fireborne on a whim and absolutely fell in love with it! It is one of the best dragon fantasies that I have read and I will be continuing on with the series because the first book ended in a bit of a cliffhanger and I have a feeling that the series is going to get even more action-packed from here.

I adore Becky Chambers, so of course, I adored A Psalm for the Wild-Built. It was so beautifully written and sweet and I will be reading the sequel, A Prayer for Crown-Shy, the minute it comes out!

The Jasmine Throne has really snuck up on me and has become one of my favourite books of the year. The sequel, The Oleander Sword, comes out next year and I can’t wait to get my hands on it.

The entire series for The Bone Witch is available for free if you are an Audible Plus member, so I listened to the first book. I thought it was interesting but it is not one that has stayed with me and I go back and forth on whether it is worth continuing on with. The sequels are free, so I know they will be there if the mood strikes.

It Happened One Summer was probably my favourite romance of 2021, so I will definitely be reading the sequel, Hook, Line, and Sinker, when it comes out in 2022. It follows the sister from the first book, who I absolutely adored!

I have an eARC for the sequel to Finlay Donovan is Killing it, so I will be reading it at the beginning of January. It is such a fun mystery series and I just love reading about Finlay and all of the wild situations she finds herself in.

I am fascinated by Mary Queen of Scots, so My Contrary Mary really worked for me and I love the humour. I will most certainly be reading the sequel, My Imaginary Mary, as it follows Mary Shelley!

I thought that Sweethand was a fun and light hate-to-love romance and I loved all of the baking elements and the setting, but there is no information on when the sequel comes out and I am not sure if I will read it when it does. I think it really depends on who it follows!

Happily Ever After was really sweet and I enjoyed it, but I don’t think I will be prioritizing the sequel. I think it will all come down to reviews and mood for me.

I was sent an unsolicited copy of the sequel to The Henna Artist, but I sadly don’t see myself picking it up any time soon. I had such high hopes for the first book but I struggled with it. I think I just expected something different!

Descender is my new favourite graphic novel series and I have already read the second volume. I cannot wait to continue on with this series because it makes me so happy. There is something about SciFi graphic novels that really work for me!

I was so disappointed by Echo North and it is the book that made me realize how hit or miss Beauty and the Beast retellings can be for me. This is a book I really should have DNFed and I will not be continuing on with the series.

The Empress of Salt and Fortune is a book I would need to reread before I continued on with the series. I listened to the audiobook and feel like a lot of it went over my head. I think I would take it in better if I read it physically.

I have been meaning to read Jade War since I read Jade City! The first book really took me by surprise and I would love to read both sequels before the end of 2022.

I thought that The Gilded Ones was a strong first book in a series and it ended in an interesting way, so The Merciless Ones will be a high priority for me when it comes out in 2022.

I adore Mindy McGinnis, but The Initial Insult just did not work for me. I loved the atmosphere but not enough to want to continue on with the series, sadly. Though the first one did end on a cliffhanger, so I might look up spoilers.

I really loved A Dark and Hollow Star and am excited about the sequel, but the cover for it is so terrible! I know that is shallow, but the cover for the first book is just so stunning that it is disappointing.

Akemi Dawn Bowman is an author I really love, so I was impressed with The Infinity Courts and I cannot wait to see where the story goes from here.

Legendborn is a book that I loved when I first read it, but it has not really stayed with me. That said, I am still curious to see what happens next!

I loved If the Shoe Fits, which was a modern-day Cinderella retelling and I am excited about the rest of the books in the series, which will be retellings written by different authors.

Battle Royal was so adorable and gave me all of The Great British Bake Off vibes that I am always looking for. I cannot wait for the sequel because it follows one of my favourite characters from the first book!

For the Wolf was fun and atmospheric and I actually enjoyed it more than I was expecting. I am even more excited for the sequel because it follows the sister from the first book, who I found to be a more compelling character.

At first, I was not sure I would continue on with The Radiant Emperor series, but I still find myself thinking about the first book from time to time, so I think I will try the next book when it comes out.

  1. ooh so many! I started quitemany of these as well 🙂
I don”t want to make this list myself haha, I think it will scare me!

  2. I’m going to make an honest effort in 2022 to finish…let’s say at least half of the series that I am currently in the middle of. I’d say all, but I’m in the middle of so many 20+ mystery series that it’s not practical. But all of the completed 15-books-or-fewer series that I am in the middle of…those I’m gonna finish. I am. Really.

    Really. 😆

  3. I have trouble finishing series too. I did like If The Shoe Fits, and Finlay Donovan Is Killing It. And hope to continue with those! Happy Reading Kristan!
