This week’s TTT is about the books that we meant to read in 2020 but didn’t get to. I know I am not the only one who is terrible at sticking to TBRs! I always post a seasonal TBR (and some monthly ones depending on my mood!), but there has never been a time where I completed it. It was interesting to look back on some of my past posts and to be reminded of the books I still really want to make a priority.
From My Summer 2020 TBR
It seems as though so many readers fell in love with TJ Klune’s books last year, and I have no doubts that I will feel the same way when I finally get to both The Extraordinaries and The House in the Cerulean Sea. I have The Extraordinaries on audio and I love the idea of a coming of age story with superheroes, so I don’t know why I haven’t gotten to it yet. Seems like a good one for February though!
I have had IQ on my shelves for years, and the fact that I haven’t read it yet is getting ridiculous at this point. All I really know about it is that it is a modernization of Sherlock Holmes. That is truly all I need to know and why it is so baffling that it has been left unread all these years!
I have heard mixed things about Ninefox Gambit, but it sounds like the kind of SciFi that I am drawn to and something tells me that I am going to end up loving it! I neglected SciFi in 2020, and that is probably why I failed to read Ninefox Gambit, but I hope that changes in 2021.
Thriller October 2020 TBR
I am kicking myself because I haven’t read Jar of Hearts yet! It is arguably my most anticipated thriller and that makes me feel like saving it for some reason. Many reviewers have said that they read it in one sitting, so I think it will be the perfect book to read when I find myself in a reading slump.
I love witchy books and everyone was talking about The Year of the Witching last Fall, so I really should have picked this one up at the time! The sequel comes out in August of this year, so I am thinking I might read them both in October. So looking forward to that!
November 2020 TBR
Now that I am getting more and more into fantasy, Black Sun has become high priority. I don’t think I have seen a single bad review and all my friends on Goodreads have given it either four or five stars. My hope is to listen to the audiobook in February!
I was so determined to read To Sleep in a Sea of Stars, as the premise really does intrigue me, but it is just such a brick at 878 pages! The reviews have been mixed, so that is a lot of time to dedicate to a book that I might not love. I’m still curious about it though and will give it a try.
Fall 2020 TBR
The Devil and the Dark Water was one of my most anticipated books books of 2020, so it really surprises me that I haven’t read it yet! Stuart Turton’s debut, The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle, was so unique and intricate, and I have high hopes that The Devil and the Dark Water will be the same way.
Books I Want to Read in 2020 TBR
The Great Believers has been on my TBR since before it came out- I even have an annotated edition! I have had it on so many TBRs and I know that it is something I will appreciate. Will 2021 be the year I finally pick it up?
I am so ashamed! I own three of Ruta Sepetys’ books but I haven’t read any of them! I often say that historical fiction is my favourite genre, but I have moved away from it lately, but I am trying to fall in love with it again. I also haven’t read a lot of YA historical fiction, so that is something I would like to try. Salt to the Sea is a said to be a tearjerker, so I will keep that in mind when I read it!

I’m the same with Salt to the Sea. I claim to love historical fiction and want to read more of it but I’ve owned this for a while and it has never once been picked up. Even people I know who are not big readers have liked it so it is beyond ridiculous I haven’t read it yet.
I don’t know why I have been avoiding it all these years! I guess I just get distracted by other books!

I’m a big Sepetys fan! SALT TO THE SEA is a great read. I hope you enjoy it when you get to it.

The Year of the Witching and The Devil in the Dark Water are both on my list as well. I really hope that I can get around to reading them in the next few months or at least this year because I have heard such good things about both of them.

I pre-ordered Devil and the Dark Water as soon as I finished Evelyn Hardcastle, and it was one of the first books I read this year. Unfortunately, it’s nowhere near as good as Evelyn Hardcastle.

Salt to the Sea is my fav Rita Sepetys! She’s a definite cross over author and I don’t think you’ll feel like you’re reading YA. Enjoy!

Ooh good luck with Ninefox Gambit – it’s a big favourite of mine but I think it took me three attempts to get into it (the opening chapters are a massive immersion into WTF so it took a while to find my feet). I’m really looking forward to Black Sun too!

Well maybe one way to read some is through audiobooks. Because the Extraordinaries and Salt to the Sea are amazing audiobooks!
I have The Extraordinaries on audio! I never thought about Salt to the Sea on audio, but that’s a great idea.
I am horrible at keeping to my TBR as well; I can’t even stick to my TBR for readathons when there are only 2-3 books. I keep forgetting about To Sleep in a Sea of Stars. I absolutely adored Paolini’s style of writing and description in The Inheritance Cycle, so I can’t wait to see how he does with a sci-fi adult novel. The 800+ pages is definitely a good reason why I’ve been putting it off though, haha. I hope you’re able to get to all of these soon!
Black Sun is totally worth the read! It’s unlike any fantasy that I’ve ever read. I’m hoping to get to The Year of the Witchling soon
