Books on My Summer 2023 to-Read List

There are so many books that I have been saving for the summer because I have become such a seasonal reader. There are just some books that look like perfect beach reads so I am excited to read these with my feet in the sand.

I received The Dead Romantics for Christmas and I have been dying to read it but I just know I am going to love reading it on the beach so I have been saving it. I have been recommended this so many times and I cannot wait to finally get to it. It is giving me Just Like Heaven vibes, which is a movie that I love.

Anita Kelly has the potential to become one of my favourite romance authors. I adored Love and Other Disasters and even preordered Something Wild and Wonderful but everything about it screams summer to me. As you can see, I love contemporary romance during the summer.

At this point, I think I read something by Alexis Hall every summer and I think this year I will be picking up Paris Daillencourt is About to Crumble. This is the sequel to Rosaline Palmer Takes the Cake and you know I love a good foodie romance. All I know is that one of the characters in this book is obsessed with his cat, so I already love him!

I read When in Rome earlier this year and it was so much fun for me and I am excited to read Practice Makes Perfect, which is set in the same small town and follows the sister of the male love interest from book one. She owns a flower shop, so such summer vibes!

I meant to read Exes and O’s around Valentine’s Day but didn’t get to it, so I decided to wait for the summer. I don’t know what it is but I am more likely to enjoy a romcom during the summer than I am if I read it any other time of the year.

Kennedy Ryan’s romances are much heavier than what I typically look for during the summer months but I just adore her that I really want to get to Long Shot sooner rather than later. I know that there is a content warning for domestic abuse, so I will have to be in the right place to read it, but I trust Kennedy Ryan!

The Wisteria Society of Lady Scoundrels screams summer to me! It is a Regency romance but with vampires and the vibes just sound perfect. There are two more books in the series so I would love to get to those as well if I like book one.

I am lucky enough to have an eARC of Family Lore. This is Elizabeth Acevedo’s adult debut, but I have loved all of her YA novels. It comes out on August 1st, so I hope to get to it in July so I can have a review out for you before then.

I have to mix it up because I know I will get burnt out on contemporary romance, so I think This Delicious Death will be perfect for that. If I am not reading romcoms on the beach, I was to be reading a teen slasher.

I have a physical ARC of The Invisible Hour and I am thrilled about it! You all know how much I adore Alice Hoffman.

  1. You have a lot here that are on my TBR. I’ve only read Practice Makes Perfect and Long Shot. I think Practice Makes Perfect would make a great beach read. Long Shot was really good, but it’s dealing with some dark, heavy topics. Make sure to check out triggers if you have any.

  2. Currently reading The Rebel King but Kennedy Ryan. Then Capture the Sun by Jesse Mahilik(sp.), need to finish up Finally Mine, Silver Nitrate, the next book in the Alius Academy ARC and then in blocking off August for TOG until I finish it.

  3. Great post!

I still can’t believe I haven’t read The Dead Romantics yet! I literally got the book around the time it came out in stores, lol. I am definitely interested in reading that author’s new book, it sounds so interesting.

I rarely am able to stick to a TBR, but hopefully this summer I get around to reading The Summer of Broken Rules. I’ve heard it’s a really good book, and this summer seems like the perfect time to finally get around to reading it.
