Currently Reading

I am in a romance mood, so I have plans to read romance all week long, and I am vlogging it!
By the Book is a modern Beauty and the Beast retelling, and the nods to the Disney movie are hilarious and fun to find. I really like our main character, Isabelle (of course!), so far. I think the conversations about the struggle of working in publishing, especially as a person of colour, are very timely. I am about 70 pages in, and the Beast character is such a jerk, so I am curious to see how that all plays out.
I just started Thank You for Listening on audio this morning, so no thoughts just yet! I am excited to read something from Julia Whelan, as she is one of my favourite audiobook narrators.
Just Finished

I have been feeling a little bit slumpy lately, but that has definitely changed over the last week! I am so happy that I managed to finish four books.
The Hookup Plan by Farrah Rochon is the third book in the Boyfriend Project series. I really loved London’s story and I thought that she had great chemistry with the love interest, Drew. There is something about London that reminds me of friends I have in my real life, so I have a soft spot for her. I thought this book explored some interesting conversations about the relationships between fathers and daughters. I will post a full review soon!
I have such mixed feelings about Hook, Line, and Sinker! I flew through this book and I like Hannah and thought her struggles with her career were interesting, but the relationship itself was so frustrating at times. I think the book has some great points about toxic masculinity and the effect that being objectified can have on a person, but I just wanted Fox to go to therapy so badly. It felt like Hannah was acting more as his therapist than a potential partner! It was amazing to be back in this town again and I loved seeing Piper and Brendan from the first book, but I wanted more from the romance!
The Undead Truth of Us came out yesterday, and I was lucky enough to have an ARC. Do not go into this book thinking it is your traditional zombie novel- the zombies in this case feel more like a metaphor. John Green is mentioned in the book, and I think that is actually a good comparison for the tone of the story. If you want something similar to John Green with a hint of zombies, pick this one up! I thought it explored grief in an honest way.
A Prayer for the Crown-Shy was such a delight! It was exactly what my heart needed- I was touched, to be honest. Sibling Dex and Mosscap are two of my favourite characters and I just love their friendship. They have such important conversations and hilarious interactions. I am not sure if we are getting more books in this series, but I so hope that we do!
Starting Next

I love reading romance in the summer, and it feels like I am running out of time! That is why I would love to get to both Love and Other Words and Better Than the Movies!

Summer is the best time to read romance novels!
It really is!
You have great books on here! I am excited for a few of them.
Some fun ones for sure!
I can’t wait to hear what you think of Love and Other Words! That was one of my early CLo books and still remains one of my all time favorites of theirs! <3
I think I am going to love it! Will it make me cry on the beach while I’m reading it?? 😂
I definitely think it will give you all of the feels!! <3
Okay, you’ve definitely intrigued me with your “similar to John Green with a hint of zombies” comment. That sounds like such a unique and weirdly fascinating combo? I’m gonna check out what this book was about! I preordered Thank You For Listening as an ebook but now I’m wondering if I should check out the audiobook as well. I can’t wait to hear what you think of it (both the book and audio) but I’ve heard quite a lot of positive things about the book so far! I hope you enjoy By the Book as well cos I love B&B retellings. Happy reading 😃
Have a great reading week!
Thank you. You too!!
Sounds like some great books! I do love the Monk & Robot series. I’m hoping for at least one more book (though I’d prefer several).
Same! I am hoping she just continues writing them. Never gets old for me!
I think we can probably assume there is at least one more, though, since the road trip part of book two had The City as an end goal… and we haven’t quite gotten there yet. After that, though, I’m not sure.
Definitely agree with you about Fox needing therapy! I’ve been wanting to read By the Book so looking forward to hearing your thoughts 🙂
Right? I thought his story was interesting, but I always appreciate when characters go to therapy when they need it!
Great post!
I actually got Love And Other Words a few months ago, but I haven’t read it yet. I can’t wait too though because I hear that it’s a really great book. I also just got Better Than The Movies recently as well.
I recently just finished reading LA Weather. Really great book! I just started reading The Summer I Turned Pretty.
There are so many great books on here! I am itching to read a lot of romance lately. I need to get some of these arcs out of the way first! I just got a copy of Psalm and I’m glad that you really liked book two!! I hope you have a wonderful week.
