WWW Wednesday (June 8th, 2022)

WWW Wednesday is hosted by Sam @ Taking on a World of Words! All you have to do is answers the following three questions:

What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

Currently Reading

I just started an ALC of Home Field Advantage, but it is out now! I love a good sports romance and the fact that this one is sapphic is an added bonus!

I am a few chapters into The Romance Recipe and I am hooked! I love that it is dual perspective and that we have mutual pining. Amy is a restaurant owner and Sophie is her head chef. Sophie is also a reality TV star, which I love!

Just Finished

Deep in Providence is an impressive debut. There is something so special about the way that Riss M. Neilson weaves a story. I loved that magic system and how it was rooted in Filipino culture. This is a devastating look at grief and follows three teenagers dealing with the loss of one of their best friends and using magic to bring her back, but there are consequences. Each of the girls has their separate struggles and I was invested in each of them. I will say that I wish I had read the book physically or that the audiobook had a different narrator for each character because I did find myself struggling to tell them apart.

I have read many Trojan War retellings at this point, but I just never get tired of them. I knew very little about Elektra as a character before I read this book, so that added some freshness to the story for me. I also enjoyed the other two perspectives that we got and they gave me a better understanding of their motivations. This is a powerful look at women’s rage and grief and I loved the writing style. I have never read a greek myth retelling this quickly! I now want to read Jennifer Saint’s debut, Ariadne.

Starting Next

Authority is the second book in the Southern Reach trilogy, which is a series I am determined to finish this summer. I feel like it has been a while since I read some weird SciFi, so I am up for it!

  1. Currently reading Kew Garden Girls at War by Posy Lovell and S by J.J. Abrams and Doug Dorst; just recently finished On Tyranny: 20 Lessons from the 20th Century by Timothy Snyder, and plan on reading Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir. ~nan

  2. I’ll be interested in your thoughts on Authority! I started Annihilation a few years back and couldn’t get through it — and I do usually enjoy weirdness in my sci-fi! I keep wondering if I should give the book (and series) another try.
