I went back and forth when putting this list together! I wasn’t sure what a desert island book meant to me. I ultimately went with a list of books I could reread again and again and never get tired of. There are so many layers to most of these books, so I think I could take something new away each time I read them. I also think they would be good distractions and would keep my mind sharp!

Never Let Me Go is my favourite book of all time, so of course it is my ultimate desert island book! Cannery Row is my favourite classic and is probably the book I have reread the most. Hamnet is one of the best books I have read in recent years and one I can not stop thinking about. Piranesi and Project Hail Mary are the two books that are fighting for my best books of the year, at least from what I have read so far.

Of course I would need to take Pride and Prejudice with me- it is the ultimate romance and I could not be parted from Mr. Darcy. Plain Bad Heroines might be a surprising choice, but it is a longer novel and there is so much going on and so many characters, so I think it could keep me entertained for awhile. The Fifth Season is such a brilliant book, and I know that a lot of it went over my head the first time I read it, so imagine have all this time to reread it over and over again and being able to analyze everything about it!? City of Girls is another long one, but it is more fun and light-hearted while having some deeper themes- it would be like a breath of fresh air! Bitter Orange is simply a book I adore and could see myself continuing to love no matter how many times I read it.

Project Hail Mary was on my list, too!

I love that book so much/
Never Let Me Go, Piranesi and Project Hail Mary are all on my TBR and you just bumped them up on the soonish TBR list. Dune world be my Desert Island Book, but maybe also The Way of Kings. 😻
That makes me happy! Dune is a book I have been meaning to read for years!!
I can’t recommend it enough! Especially since it’s coming to the screen very soon! I hope the movie does the book justice!
I was intrigued by the trailor!
I also have Steinbeck on my list this week. Great list!
Here’s my list!
I still need to read East of Eden!
Ooooh, Plain Bad Heroines! I literally just added it to my tbr! I keep seeing mixed reviews, you reckon it’s worth it I take it!
Ah I loved it! I’ve never read anything quite like it before. There’s a lot going on but I think it’s so worth it!
I’ll definitely get around to reading it eventually, I’m sure!
Some fab books here! I need to read Project Hail Mary!
Ahhh I just know you’re going to love it!
Ooh you’ve got some great books on here and some I’ve never read yet. Definitely need to check some of them out!
I love that!
Yes I think I would take rereadable books too…..if one gets to plan these things!
Haha exactly! We’d be lucky to be stranded on an island with one book!
We’d have to write our own I guess!
Books you could re-read is a great idea! I went with the chunkiest books on my tbr, but at least you know you will love the ones you take 😊
That’s a good idea too! I tried to choose a couple longer ones.
Great list! I haven’t read any of these yet, but hope to read Hamnet soon. Pride and Prejudice is also on my TBR.
My TTT
Two amazing books!!
Now I’ll have to get Cannery Row
I love it so much!!
Great choices! There are several books on here that I want to read.
I’d love to hear your thoughts on any of these!
I agree with your choice of Pride and Prejudice! <3 I have so many looks I love, I don't know which ones I would pick! :O
I went back and forth on so many of these! Ask me tomorrow and it might be a different list. Pride and Prejudice would always be on there though!
These are great picks, I loved Hamnet and Piranesi. I considered East of Eden, but I haven’t read Cannery Row and clearly I should. I included Emma on my list, it’s my favorite Austen.
Cannery Row is much shorter than East Of Eden, so a quicker read! I love Emma too. I listened to on audio last year and Emma Thompson did an incredible job with it!
Pride and Prejudice would be on my list too no matter how many times I would go back to change it. It’s the only book with a permanent spot.
Piranesi is beautifully written, great pick. Happy reading. My TTT https://readwithstefani.com/ten-books-i-want-to-read-by-the-end-of-2021/
It really is! I should have chosen her debut to bring since it is so big, but I haven’t read it yet!
These are fantastic choices, and although they weren’t on my list (probably because I didn’t think to include more recent reads), I could definitely see wanting Piranesi, Project Hail Mary, and Plain Bad Heroines with me on a desert island!
Right?! There’s so much to love about those books!
I agree that Piranesi is definitely a desert island book! Not only is it VERY good, I’m sure that I could reread it and be just an engrossed as the first time.
Exactly! There’s so much to unpack in that book!
pride and prejudice for sure haha
100%!!
I’ve had Piranesi on my list of books to read for the past two months but I’ve been struggling to read it. I haven’t been able to get past the first two pages. But now that you say it’s fighting for a spot on your best books of the year, maybe I’ll try harder at reading it
The writing style definitely takes some getting used to and I struggled to understand the world at first, but it’s worth it!!
Never let me go became my favourite!! thanks for the suggestion ✨💖
Ahhh love hearing that!
It’s really fantastic
I agree 100%!!
I agree with your defination for desserted island book. I think you would also want some books that help you survive! I would add Harry Potter to that list and some sort of DK book.
😍😍😍😍
I am excited to read Piranesi. I definitely couldn’t go to a desert island without Pride and Prejudice—or how about one of those compilations of her work? 🤣
Hahah that’s genius! I have one of those. Would definitely bring it!
Ive heard so much about Piranesi. I’m intrigued! Would love to read it
It’s really a special book. I can’t stop thinking about it!
