This week’s TTT topic is all about places in books we’d love to live! I thought I would be realistic here and talk about books set in Toronto- a city I hope to move to in the future. Putting this list together was interesting- I have no read nearly enough books set in Toronto, so I would love some recommendations! A few of the books on this lists are ones I have read and the others are on my TBR.
It is quite clear by the CN Tower in the background that the majority of A Dark and Hollow Star is set in Toronto. This is actually one of my favourite books of the year and an all-time favourite fantasy novel. I do think that the setting played a part in why I loved it so much!
Ties That Tether is a book I have mixed feelings about but appreciated in the moment I read it. I absolutely loved that it was set in Toronto and that there were many references to streets and restaurants I am familiar with.
All My Puny Sorrows is one of my favourite books and one I do not talk about nearly enough. Toronto is definitely the secondary setting of this novel, but it is an important one! It is a beautiful book about sisterhood.
Can you believe I have never read Station Eleven? It has been on my TBR for years and I really liked The Glass Hotel! From what I have heard, the book starts off in Toronto but quickly becomes a dystopian world.
I own Ayesha at Last but I still haven’t read it, which is ridiculous. It is a Pride and Prejudice retelling set in Toronto- it has so much potential to be something I love!
I have been saying that I have been wanting to read more Giller Prize winners, and Reproduction certainly works for that. It is a multi-generational story (my favourite!) following a family who lives in a Toronto suburb.
Fifteen Dogs is another Giller Prize winner! The premise is interesting- it follows Hermes and Apollo and some dogs walking the streets of Toronto.
As you can see by the fact that I could not come up with ten books, I need help finding more books set in Toronto!! I would love any recommendations you may have.

A Dark and Hollow Star (can’t wait for the sequel!) was the first book I’ve read set in Toronto. It was nice for a change and made me wonder why more books aren’t set in Canada – or maybe I just haven’t come across them.
It doesn’t seem like there are many books set in Canada! I have read quite a few but that is because I look for them. I really should make a post about it!!
I have a blogging friend who lives in Toronto and it does look like a great place to live, with all its beautiful murals and great places to eat and shop.
Any list that has A Dark and Hollow Star on it immediately has my attention!! Perhaps I’ll have to read more books set in Toronto

Funny, I never noticed that not many YA books (or books, in general) that I’ve read are set in Canada??? I’d love to find my way there, too! I’ve heard so much about A Dark and Hollow Star. I finally put a hold on it at the library, but it looks like I’ll be waiting a loooong time. Might just buy it as some point LOL. I’ve heard such great things!

I haven’t been to Toronto but I’ve heard it’s a very nice city. A Dark and Hollow Star sounds like a fabulous read- i’ll have to look it up. We’re actually not far from Toronto really- we’re in Michigan, so it’s nice to read fantasies set in nearby places. 🙂
Love that! My dad’s family is in Sarnia, so I have been been to Michigan many times. It’s beautiful!
If you want a Toronto book that is absolutely beautifully written, but not an easy read, about historical Toronto, then In the Skin of the Lion by Michael Ondaatje is one you should read. Like I said, he is my favorite author, so I’ve read everything he’s written. As for The English Patient, I love it so much, I’ve never been able to write a review of it.
I’ve been to Toronto and really liked it, but Vancouver has my heart forevermore, BUT funny enough, I just started reading a book set in Toronto. It’s by the same author as Ayesha at Last and about rivaling halal restaurants in a very You’ve Got Mail kind of manner. The main character is fierce and has a great voice. I’m about 40% in and enjoying it very much (at least when my stomach doesn’t start growling because I want to eat all the food mentioned).
That sounds amazing. I didn’t realize she wrote another book. Love anything to so with rival businesses!!

Toronto lawyer Robert Rotenberg has written a series of crime novels – all set in Toronto. The first is called Old City Hall. Even if you aren’t a fan of the genre, they are a lot of fun to read because if the setting. One of the books even features a murder in a Tim Hortons… how Toronto is that?
