This is a meme created by Reading Marie, and I am so excited to participate!
It is so easy to join in and here are the rules:
Take your current read and compare it to what you reading this exact time last year. Which one do you like better? What is different about the books? Any special facts/things you want to make note of or bring attention to
This Year I Am Reading…

I am about 100 pages into Sex and Vanity, and I am riveted. Everything that I loved about Crazy Rich Asians is happening in this book, but I think it would do Sex and Vanity a disservice to compare it to Crazy Rich Asians. I have seen a lot of mixed reviews, and I think a lot of that stems from the comparisons that are being made. These are two completely different books! I am loving the descriptions of Capri and of all the food and characters. I forgot just how vivid Kwan’s writing is- though it is simplistic, I can picture everything perfectly in my mind. Can’t wait to see where this one goes!
Last Year I Was Reading…

House of Salt and Sorrows was a book that took me by complete surprise. I knew next to nothing going into it (this was a buddy read on Instagram- surprise, surprise!), and I had no idea that it would be so dark and haunting- I loved it. This is the perfect book to read this time of year!

While on the surface, these two books have absolutely nothing in common, there is one thing that they both share- they are retellings! Sex and Vanity is a retelling of A Room With a View, and House of Salt and Sorrows is a retelling of Twelve Dancing Princesses. I love books that are inspired by other works- it is always interesting to see how that inspirations plays out and the changes that are made.
What were you reading this time last year?

Great concept on the post! Loved it 💕
September must be a month for retellings!
