Top Five Tuesday is hosted by the wonderful Shanah at Bionic Book Worm.
I absolutely love this month’s theme! Over the course of the month, I will be sharing with you my favourite authors from A-Z according to their last name. So here are my favourite authors whose last names start with U through Z- I have a feeling I will struggle this week! I will also include some honorable mentions because I’m a cheater that way.
Failing already… I have not read any book by an author with a last name that start with the letter “U”. I don’t even have any on my “want to read” list. I am looking forward to see who everyone else came up with because I need recommendations.
Jeff VanderMeer
Jeff VanderMeer writes the weirdest novels and that is what I love about him and his work. I did not know what to think about Annihilation when I first read it, but it is a book that I continue to think about. I am so impressed with the way that he writes female characters and how they are at the forefront of his stories. His novel Borne is high on my TBR list!
Honorable Mentions: Edward Vass, Brian K. Vaughan
Colson Whitehead

I will read everything that Colson Whiteheads writes. His books The Underground Railroad and The Nickels Boys absolutely destroyed me. They are two books that I am constantly recommending. I am anxiously awaiting to see what he writes next.
Honorable Mentions: Sarah Winman, Jeannette Walls, Martha Wells, Abbi Waxman
No X, but that cannot be a surprise!
David Yoon

I was blown away by Frankly In Love- it was so much more than I was expecting. I adored the way that David Yoon wrote Frank and it made me realize that I have not read enough novels from the perspective a teenage boy. It felt so honest and authentic. His next book, Super Fake Love Song, is set to come out in September and I am excited about it.
Markus Zusak

I have a feeling that Markus Zusak will be on most of our lists this week, not only because there are not many authors with a last name that starts with “Z” but also because The Book Thief is a fantastic novel. I have had his latest release, The Bridge of Clay, on my shelves since it came out. I need to read it already but I just don’t want to compare it to The Book Thief.
Honorable Mentions: Gabrielle Zevin
I think it is intersting that all of my favourites this week are men! That never happens!

Omg Gabrielle Zevin!! love her!! This is a great list–with some challenging letters!
She’s so great!
Those seem like very good choices. And of course Markus Zuzak couldn’t stay out of it…
Of course!
Great list!

Thanks!
Great author choices this week!
Thank you!
You’re welcome!
Book Thief cannot be compared to Bridge in any way!
For U …. (first name not last) https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/43124133
Should have went first name! I have Ayesha at Last on my shelves. Guess I need to read it!
You can make an exception for U I think! 👍
