I am constantly added books to my TBR and I thought it might be interesting to talk about why I want to read them. I also get a secret joy out of adding more books to your TBRs!
The Last Book Party by Karen Dukess
This book has been making its rounds on bookstagram and the cover and title alone were enough to make me want to read it! I have absolutely no idea what it is about but I am intrigued nonetheless. I know that it is historical fiction and that books are important to the story, and that is all that I need to know!
The English Patient by Michael Ondaatje
I have been meaning to read a book by Micheal Ondaatje, and The English Patient is one of my mom’s favourite movies. I told her that I would read the book and then we can watch the movie together. Also, for my birthday my friends gifted me one of those 100 Book Bucket List scratch-off posters and this book is on there!
Miracle Creek by Angie Kim
Miracle Creek is another book that everyone on bookstagram was reading at some point. It must have been a Book of the Month club pick! The cover instantly caught by attention, and the more reviews that I read the more intrigued I was. Not a single one of my friends on Goodreads has rated it below four stars. It sounds like the kind of literary mystery that I adore!
The Adventures of Maud West Lady Detective by Susannah Stapleton
This is sort of a random one, but I saw Simon at Savidge Reads rave about it and I knew that it would be my type of book. I have really gotten in to true crime this year but I have realized how few of them focus on women. I know next to nothing about Maud West other than the fact that she was a female detective working in the early 1900s. I am looking forward to learning more!
My Friend Anna: The True Story of a Fake Heiress by Rachel DeLoache WIlliams
My Friend Anna is another true crime book and it is being describe as Sex and the City meets Catch Me If You Can- that is all that I needed to know! I recently saw Morgan at nycbookgirl on bookstagram talking about how much she was enjoying it and couldn’t put it down. It comes out tomorrow and I can not wait to get my hands on it!
Something Like Gravity by Amber Smith
Look at that cover!! So awesome! The book itself sounds just as beautiful and sweet. I think that the Goodreads description will help to sell you on this one:
Chris and Maia aren’t off to a great start.
A near-fatal car accident first brings them together, and their next encounters don’t fare much better. Chris’s good intentions backfire. Maia’s temper gets the best of her.
But they’re neighbors, at least for the summer, and despite their best efforts, they just can’t seem to stay away from each other.
The path forward isn’t easy. Chris has come out as transgender, but he’s still processing a frightening assault he survived the year before. Maia is grieving the loss of her older sister and trying to find her place in the world without her. Falling in love was the last thing on either of their minds.
But would it be so bad if it happened anyway?
Sounds so good!
Middlegame by Seanan McGuire
I can not believe that Middlegame came out in May and I am just now talking about it! It was always on my radar but I was not sure if it was something that I was interested in reading. I adore Seanan McGuire’s The Wayward Children series and I think I have just been nervous to try anything else by her. Middlegame has been getting glowing reviews and I am not pretty confident that I will love it as well!
What book have you most recently added to your TBR? Have you read any of these books?
All are great books or look like they are. I preferred The English Patient as a movie. Somehow I expected more from Ondaatje’s novel because I was a fan of the movie first. Minghella, the director, did an amazing job and the musical score by Gabriel Yared in the movie is beautiful beyond words. I got to know about The Last Book Party from another booktuber and got instantly intrigued by the synopsis. It has a lot of potential.
That is interesting about The English Patient. I think there are definitely cases where seeing the movie first will make the book less enjoyable! How great does The Last Book Party sound? Definitely intrigued!
I loved Miracle Creek! The English Patient has been on my TBR for ages, but your list has inspired me to get to reading it!
I’m so happy you loved Miracle Creek. I’m so excited to read it!
Definitely looking into some of these new-to-me titles! The only one on the list I’ve read is Miracle Creek (which I actually have a mini review up for today!), but I’m apparently one of the like 7 people that rated it below 4 stars (hides in shame!) lol
Hope you get to all of these titles and that you love them! Happy reading!
Oh I’m looking forward to your review! I like to read a variety of opinions about a book.
Thank you!
I’ve not read any of these, yet, but “The Last Book Party” really caught my eye. I recently added “Sourdough” by Robin Sloan to my TBR pile, since I enjoyed his other novel, “Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore” so much!
Ooh, I like the sound of Something Like Gravity- will have to check it out!
Sounds really good doesn’t it?
I went ahead and added My Friend Anna too, because I apparently really enjoy true crime that doesn’t have murder, and I also love Catch Me if You Can. Sold.
I enjoy true crime that doesn’t involve murder as well! It seems to be harder to find!
Have you read Bad Blood? I ate that up!
Yes! One of my favourites! I also highly recommend The Feather Thief. It was not something I would normally read but was so interesting!
I loved The Feather Thief! I am discovering this is my favorite sub-genre of non-fiction.
Agreed! They are hard to find though.
Have you read The Orchid Thief? It’s an old-y but a good-y, and based on how much I liked The Feather Thief I bet I would really like it.
I haven’t! I have heard good things about it though. Need to move it up my TBR. Thanks!
I love that post idea! I might do it as well if that’s okay with you 🙂
Middle Game by Seanan Mcguire is in my TBR as well 😀 Miracle Creek has been around a few times cant wait to pick it up as well!
So excited to read both!
Thanks for this post idea – I just finished mine for tomorrow. I’ve added so many new books to my tbr this month. Can’t wait to read them.
BTW I have Middlegame on my tbr too. I started the audiobook, but it expired before I really got into it – so, now I have to wait for my library request to come through again.
Yay! Excited to see the books that you added.
What did you think of Middlegame so far?
Very good – very different – didn’t get too far into the story to be able to say more. But I have high hopes 😀
I hope you will enjoy all of them!

Thank you!
Miracle Creek is also in my TBR. Great post!
Thank you! I hope we both love Miracle Creek!
I have had Sourdough on my TBR for ages! I hope we both get to it soon and love it!
My Friend Anna went onto my TBR after I read an article with an interview by the author this last week. I find this entire scenario so intriguing.
So do I! It came out today! I have to wait to read it until after The Reading Rush readathon but it’s a priority that is for sure.
I’ll jump on the Miracle Creek bandwagon! I loved that book, which I listened to.
Yay! I plan to listen to it as well!
The Last Book Party sounds so cute (based on the title alone) and the cover 100% makes me want to pick it up. I’m gonna have to check out what it’s about 🙂 Miracle Creek is on my TBR too but hoping to read it next month!
Same! The cover was all I needed to see to convince me!
I hope we both read and love Miracle Creek!
I can’t believe I still haven’t picked up Middlegame either!! But I’ve been seeing more reviews for it lately and it definitely sounds like something I need in my life. 😀
I hope we both get to it soon! I have a feeling it’s going to be amazing!
Interesting list! Looks like some will have to end up on my shelf. One of my Reader friends raved about Miracle Creek, and I enjoyed The English Patient a long, long time ago. Except it does require you to be Patient as you read it.
Everyone seems to be loving Mitacle Creek!
That is good to know about The English Patient. I plan to start it today!
I have Miracle Creek in my TBR too. and it was part of BOTM haha
I wish we had BOTM in Canada!
It is a blessing and a curse haha
