I have decided to start doing monthly non-bookish favourites. I think it is fun to talk about things other than books on this blog every once in awhile, and I figured this was a great way to do it! I will talk about all of the movies, TV shows, music, food, etc I loved during the month.
The Last Summer
My friend and I live for cheesy romantic movies so when we found The Last Summer on Netflix we knew we had to get together to watch it, and boy did it deliver! There is something about movies set during the summer after senior year that bring me so much nostalgia. I thought that the acting was pretty good for this kind of movie and I honestly enjoyed every cheesy second of it.
I do not know what got in to me this month but I have really been in to painting competition shows. I have two to recommend and they are both so calming and relaxing. They make me want to take up painting!
The Big Painting Challenge
This show is definitely inspired by The Great British Bake Off and I think it works. A group of amateur painters face numerous painting challenges every week and at the end the winner gets bragging rights and a trophy. I love seeing the passion that everyone has for art, and it is inspiring to see how they grow as the competition progresses.
Portrait Artist of the Year
This is another UK TV show but in this competition the contestants only paint portraits. Portraits fascinate me and it is interesting to see how each artist has their own unique style. This is the show that I am currently watching and I can not believe I how invested I am in it!
(I’m Gonna) Love Me Again by Elton John and Taron Egerton
This is a new Elton John song that was written for the upcoming movie Rocketman, which is about Elton John’s life and career. I absolutely adore Taron Egerton and I can not wait to see him as Elton John. Isn’t this song great? There is something so nostalgic about it!
Clipfolio from Anthropologie
My publishing program started again in May and I thought that this clipfolio would help me to stay more organized. I was right! Not only is it adorable, but it is also very durable and helps me keep track of things. There are a lot of other designs on the website as well and I am tempted to pick up another one…
Family Reunion
We had a reunion with my dad’s side of the family during the long weekend and it was so nice to catch up with everyone. We live about seven hours away so we don’t get to see them as much as we would like. My Nonno turned 93 in May so it was important we went to see him to celebrate! Also, there were a lot of new babies that I was dying to meet.
Mochi Ice Cream
I discovered mochi ice cream this month and it has been a game changer! So freaking delicious and mess-free! Doesn’t that look delicious? It is rice cake that is wrapped around ice cream and I can not even begin to describe how good it is. So far I have tried strawberry and mint chocolate chip but I need to try every flavour that exists.
Have you watched, listened to, or tried any of my favourites? What was your favourite non-bookish thing this month?
Omg that mochi ice cream! We were just in Paris and there were posters for some brand of it in subways and the like but I never noticed it in the stores to try. Sounds so good!!
So delicious! I’m starting to see them more and more in stores so keep an eye out!
Oh my gosh … that Mochi Ice Cream looks SO GOOOOOOOOOOOOOD!
It’s delicious! It’s the only way I want to eat my ice cream now!
I’m confused (I know big shock)…. Rocketman is a new song??? Or you mean they just got someone to cover it. I am definitely with you that I can’t wait to see it!
Haha the new song is called (I’m Gonna) Love Me Again for the movie Rocketman. I’m so excited to see it!
Ohhhh ok now I got it!!!
Looks like a good month! I have also had a phase being obsessed with painting shows😂 (I watched nothing but back-to-back Bob Ross for a good month) but those ones look so good! And that mochi ice cream!😍 I’ve never even heard of it but now it’s all I want to eat😂
It really was. I haven’t fallen down the Bob Ross rabbit hole yet but I’m sure I will soon! Mochi ice cream is everything.
I love mochi ice cream!
So delicious!
I JUST watched The Last Summer the other day! I was pleasantly surprised by it actually. I liked it more than the new Noah Centineo movie (the Perfect Date) which I also watched recently. It was super cute and I agree with you, deff makes you all kinds of nostalgic.
I also just finished watching the first season of The Society on netflix. Have you seen it? It was super interesting. A new spin on Lord of the Flies/the Pied Piper.
I 100% agree! I watched The Perfect Date this month as well but it didn’t make my favourites, even though I adore Noah!
The Society sounds amazing. Definitely going to check it out!
Ice cream in rice ?? That sounds super weird but I’m curious about the way it tastes now 🤔
It does sound like an odd mix but trust me it works!
Really want to try mochi, sad it isn’t available where i live. Love the idea of doing non-bookish favorites 🙂
I hope you get the chat be to try it one day!
I plan to go to Rocketman with my mom, sister and brother. Can’t wait to see it!
I have high expectations since I loved Bohemian Rapsody.
Ah that will be fun! I have really high hopes as well!
I didn’t even know that mochi icecream was a thing!!! What?! I will have to search for it here! 😀
I hope you find it! It is so good!!
So you tried mochi-ice cream! Yup, it’s popular here in Japan as well- maybe it’s where it originates from?? We have a product called “Yukimi-Daifuku” looks exactly like that. It’s delicious!!
I just decided the same thing for my blog and started a weekly review of something I watched that weekend. It is nice to talk about things outside the book realm every once in awhile.
Ah that is such a great idea! I love hearing about what people enjoyed beyond books.
I have never had mochi ice cream. Now I want to!
x The Captain
It is so delicious!
Really need to try out mochi again! I had it once but I can’t remember how it tastes. Is Nonno a Canadian nickname for grandfathers?
It is Italian for grandfather! My grandparents immigrated to Canada from Italy.
