Top 5 Tuesday is hosted by the wonderful Shanah @ Bionic Book Worm. This week’s topic is about cozy fall reads! I shared a list of a few of my fall recommendations in a post yesterday so if you are curious about that you can read it here. Today I am going to share five books that I am hoping to read this Fall. If you have read them I would love to know what you thought about them!
The Silence of the Girls by Pat Barker
I have been seeing The Silence of the Girls everywhere lately and it sounds like something I would really love. I have been enjoying mythology lately and this certainly fits the bill.
The Mermaid and Mrs. Hancock by Imogen Hermes Gowar
I have been wanting to read The Mermaid and Mrs. Hancock for months now and I am so happy that it is finally released in Canada. I already bought a copy of this one and it is absolutely stunning in person. I have a feeling this is going to be very unique!
Vicious by V.E. Schwab
Everyone seems to be talking about this book and it sounds absolutely amazing! I love a good villain and I also really like V.E. Schwab’s writing. I actually hope to read a few of her books this Fall
Pachinko by Min Jin Lee
I have been hearing so many great things about Pachinko so I finally bought myself a copy. It has the makings of everything that I love in a novel. I adore books that take place over multiple generations, and Pachinko has been compared to Homegoing, which is one of my favourite books.
Hocus Pocus and The All-New Sequel
Hocus Pocus is the one movie that I HAVE to watch every October. It always gets me in the Halloween spirit and I love all of the characters. I am so excited to see it in book form and to read the sequel as well. Plus I just love the cover so much!
I’m the same with Hocus Pocus. I can get into Fall without watching it!
All the books I want to read it soon 🤗
Yay! I hope we both enjoy them!
I was THIS CLOSE to buying The Silence of the Girls the last time I was in the bookstore, but I already had three other books and it was getting expensive. I own Vicious and hope to get to it soon, as well as The Mermaid and Mrs. Hancock. I basically want all the books now.
The Silence of the Girls sounds so good! I hope we both end up loving Vicious and The Mermaid and Mrs Hancock!
Oooh I hope you like Pachinko! I just read it and loved it!
That is great to hear!
Funny, I was just talking about Pachinko last night at my book club. I liked it overall, but I definitely liked the first half more than the second. I get why she wanted to write it as a multi-generational tale, but I never felt as invested in the later characters as I did with Sunja.
That is good to know about going in. I often find that in multi-generational stories that there will be some characters that I care about more than others.
“Vicious” and “Hocus Pocus” are both on my TBR list and I NEED to get on that ha-ha. I will definitely read “Hocus Pocus” this year, since it’s a perfect October read. “The Mermaid and Mrs. Hancock” sounds interesting…may have to look more into that one. Great list love!
Thank you! I hope we both enjoy these books, especially Hocus Pocus! I love that story!
I saw the hardback edition of The Mermaid and Mrs. Hancock at the Waterstones this August and it was wonderful!
Ah, I am going to have to look that up. I bet it is stunning!
The Silence of the Girls and Pachinko are two of my favorites! I hope you love them!
That is great to hear! Thank you!
I really really need to get into V.E Shwab. I’ve been meaning to but am unsure where I should start! Nice TBR 🙂
I have only read A Darker Shade of Magic and just finished A City of Ghosts. So many of her books are on my TBR though!
I watch Hocus Pocus every Halloween too! Such a classic 🙂 I had no idea there were books based on it, that’s so exciting!!
Isn’t it? I hope this means there is a chance we could get a sequel!
That would be amazing!!
I can’t wait to read the Hocus Pocus book! It’s on my list of books that I want to read in October. I have to watch the movie every single October as well. I haven’t missed a year yet.
I love that so many of us watch Hocus Pocus every year! So much nostalgia!
I so want to read Mermaid, and just look at that cover?
Isn’t the cover amazing? One of my favourites!
Indeed, it’s gorgeous.
All great picks! The Silence of the Girls & The Mermaid & Mrs. Hancock were my Book of the Month picks, also going to try & squeeze them in this season. I hope you enjoy all of these, happy reading ! <3 <3 <3
Thank you! I have high hopes for both of those books so I hope you enjoy them as well!
I love Hocus Pocus! I actually haven’t read the book version yet. (I didn’t know it existed until recently.) Is the first one anything like the movie?
Apparently the first one is exactly like the movie but I will let you know for sure when I read it! I am so curious to see what the sequel will be like!
The sequel to Vicious is on my list – you can’t go wrong with Schwab’s books.
That is so true. I think all of her books are perfect for Fall.
I love Hocus Pocus. I’m intrigued to know what the sequel is like.
Me too. Apparently it takes place 25 years later!
Vicious is also on my TBR.
Here is my TTT post

I think it’s going to be a good one!
I hope you enjoy Vicious! I loved that book for its cat and mouse chase and I’m so intrigued by the sequel cause I have no idea where the story will take us next.
Ah it just sounds so amazing!!
I also need to read The Mermaid and Mrs. Hancock! I’ve heard so many great things about it already and I feel like I need more mermaid books in my life 😀
There are not enough Mermaid books out there for my tastes!! I can not wait to get in to it!
I feel like I need to read Vicious soon as well. It’s everywhere and I feel like I’m missing out haha! Good luck with your TBR! 😊
Exactly! I hope we both get to it soon. Thank you!
I adored Pachinko! It was a really emotional and sad read, but I’d recommend it to anyone and everyone. I really want to read The Silence of the Girls too.
That is good to know. I will make sure to have tissues with me when I read it. It seems like everyone is reading The Silence of the Girls these days!
Great list, I also really want to read The Silence of the Girls. I hope you love these 🙂
I am really excited about that one. Thank you!
You’re welcome 😀💜
Ooh I love the sound of hocus pocus in book form- I have to watch that every Halloween too!
Me too! It’s so nostalgic for me. Always puts me in the Halloween spirit!
Yes completely agree!
I finally read Vicious myself and it totally lived up to the hype. It’s probably my favorite of all her books!
That is so great to hear!
