Currently Reading

I just started immersion reading The Last Tale of the Flower Bride and it is nothing like I expected but I am intrigued. Roshani Chokshi knows how to write a sentence, that is for sure! The story is being told to us by an unnamed narrator, which doesn’t always work for me but I am into it so far. I think this book is going to be all about the vibes, which is something I actually love!
Just Finished

What a great start to February! It is also so nice to return to Murderbot, especially considering I didn’t read anything in the series at all in 2022. I have now caught up on the novellas and cannot wait to dive into the first full-length novel before the second one comes out later this year. Fugitive Telemetry is like a locked room mystery featuring Murderbot- what’s not to love!?
For Butter or Worse is a foodie, hate-to-love, fake dating romance, so there is a lot going on here! I really enjoyed the first half and adored Nina as a character but I couldn’t get behind Leo as a love interest. I appreciate the mental health representations and the discussions on sexism in the food industry, but I personally couldn’t forgive Leo in the end. There was also a lot of miscommunication and one of the conflicts used one of my most hated tropes- “I am bad for you so I am going to push you away”. That said, I loved all of the descriptions around food and the restaurant industry and there were some amazing side characters who I hope get their own books!
Everyone is right about Seven Days in June. This is one of the most beautiful romances I have ever read! It is a second-chance romance between two writers and it is so deeply emotional. I need to read more romances with single moms! There are a lot of content warnings (self-harm, addiction, parental neglect) to be aware of and this is on the more serious side when it comes to romance, but it was beautifully handled and I was deeply invested.
Starting Next

I am in the mood for something witchy, so now is the perfect time to read Weyward. It has so many of my buzzwords, so I have high hopes for this one!
I really need to get on with the SPFBO reading, so I hope to read Mysterious Ways next week! It is one the shorter side, so I am hopeful!

Yay Murderbot! I’m so excited to get a new book that continues the plot from NETWORK EFFECT.
Me too! I am happy that I saved Network Effect for last!
I need to read Flower Bride too!
The Last Tale of the Flower Bride is one that I’ve been on the fence about because I’ve seen mixed reviews. I can’t wait to see what you think of it. I’m glad you are enjoying it so far!
I finished it and my feelings about it are mixed. The writing is beautiful but I think it kind of overshadowed everything else!
Ahhh, bummer! I’ve seen a lot of similar thoughts about the writing!
I read Seven Days in June last year and loved it. Glad you enjoyed it. I have an eARC of The Last Tale of the Flower Bride. On the fence about it but I like Roshani’s writing so will probably still read it. Glad you’re enjoying it.
I finished The Last Tale of the Flower Bride and have such mixed feelings about it. The writing is beautiful but I’m not sure how I feel about the rest of it!
Ooh I have to catch up with Murderbot too! happy reading!
It was so fun to be back with Murderbot!
I need to get back to Murderbot too! I read the first four novellas… but it’s been a while, and I have no memory of where the plot ended up going by #4, so a refresher is probably in order before I try to go any further. I’ve heard such good things about Seven Days in June — will have to check it out!
I did the same thing. Read the first four and then just never continued!
Seven Days in June deserve all of the hype!
Roshani’s new book sounds so wonderful, I just started it and love her writing! <3
