WWW Wednesday (October 12th, 2022)

WWW Wednesday is hosted by Sam @ Taking on a World of Words! All you have to do is answers the following three questions:

What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

Currently Reading

I am buddy reading Babel and we are reading about 10 chapters a week and I am really enjoying myself. I think that this is a book that should be buddy read, if that is an option for you. There is a lot to unpack here!

I have an ARC of The Ghost Woods, which comes out next week, and I would love to finish it beforehand. I am enjoying the setting and I am so intrigued about where this is going, but it always talks me longer to read Gothic horror. My brother and his girlfriend are visiting tomorrow and will be here for a week, so I don’t know how much reading time I will have!

Just Finished

Clown in a Cornfield took me a minute to get into. The first half felt like a lot of setup, and I cannot say that I cared about these characters at all. But once the clown comes in and this starts to feel like a true slasher, I had a good time. I think you have to suspend your disbelief to enjoy this one and that it reads like a satire in a lot of ways, but it was fun!

The Lost Girls really does read like John Tucker Must Die with vampires. I thought that this was campy and, much like Clown in a Cornfield, a book that you can’t take too seriously. I struggled with the forever 16-year-old vampire who falls in love with the teenage mortal (she is 18 in this case!), but I think the book is kind of making fun of itself.

Starting Next

I am reading In the Company of Witches for a cozy mystery book club, so I want to get to it soon! I am craving both cozy mysteries and witches right now, so this couldn’t be more perfect.

I was sent an ARC of Anywhere You Run and I really would love to pick it up soon! I have not been into thrillers recently, but I think this may be an exception. It sounds like it is more of a historical thriller and I have heard amazing things about Wanda M. Morris’ debut, All Her Little Secrets.
