The Quarter Year Crisis Book Tag

I absolutely love doing the mid-year book tag every year, so I am thrilled that Roisin @ Roisin’s Reading from BookTube created this tag!

How many books have you read so far?

I have really been in a reading mood this year and have avoided a slump (which is rare for me!), so I have read 33 books so far in 2022.

Have you already found a book you think might be a 2022 favourite?

I read Firekeeper’s Daughter in January and thought I had already found my favourite book of the year, but then I finally picked up Pachinko. So now I have my YA favourite and my adult favourite. Both of these books made me cry, which is a sure sign that I loved a book.

If not what was your favourite book you read that wasn’t quite five star?

Legends & Lattes is a book that I cannot stop talking about! It was so close to being a five-star read for me. It was a really cozy novel but I actually wish it went just a little bit deeper. That said, I loved these characters and the entire premise and atmosphere and it is one that I feel comfortable recommending to the majority of readers!

Any 1 star books / least favourite book of the year?

No one-star reads, as those are very rare for me because I normally DNF a book that I am getting a one-star vibe from. That said, I have had a few disappointments, including The Maids. It is a quick read and I loved the setting but I think it fell into some stereotypes and I went into it with too high of expectations.

Most read genre so far?

I am so surprised to say that it is fantasy! Of the 33 books I have read so far this year, 11 of them have been fantasy, so a third of my reading. That is so unusual for me. I have never considered myself a huge fantasy reader, but I think I am learning the kind of fantasy that I enjoy!

A book that surprised you?

I am not a huge reader of paranormal romance, but I was sent an ALC of Not the Witch You Wed and figured I would give it a chance. I ended up having so much fun with this and loved the romance between a magicless witch and a werewolf. There was a lot of great worldbuilding and it was heavy on the politics, which I didn’t expect but very much enjoyed!

Book that’s come out in 2022 already that you want to read but haven’t yet?

I have two copies of Daughter of the Moon Goddess, but I still have not read it! I just know I am going to love this book and it is high on my TBR for the Spring. It sounds like it is going to be absolutely beautiful!

One goal you made that you’re succeeding at?

One of my goals was to read one nonfiction book a month and I have been doing that so far. I have read four nonfiction titles so far this year and have enjoyed them all.

I have also made a bit of a dent in my TBR cart and have been working on not being scared of bigger books!

One goal you made you need to focus on?

Surprise, surprise. I am not doing so well at catching up with series! I think I have only finished one series so far this year even though I am in the middle of too many to count. I need to do better at that!
