Bookish Scenarios Book Tag

I found this tag on Ashlee’s blog Books Are 42 and I just had to do it! The questions are so fun and challenging.

You have to get rid of all your books and you can only keep ONE from each of these genres: Contemporary, fantasy, nonfiction and one other of your choosing. What books do you keeps?

I had such a hard time choosing one contemporary novel. I almost went with a romance, but then I saw Women Talking on my shelves and knew that if I could only keep one contemporary, that would be the one. It is such a powerful and heart-wrenching book, and it is one that I could see myself rereading over and over again and getting something new from it each time. I also just love Miriam Toews’ stories and the way that she creates her characters.

Practical Magic is my favourite witchy series, and I almost went for one of the other books in the series because they are objectively better books, but there is something just so nostalgic about Practical Magic. I enjoy a wide range of fantasy, but if I could only keep one it would have to be something witchy!

If there is one book I find myself recommending most often it is Maybe You Should Talk to Someone. I think I would need to have a copy of this just so I can lend it out to people. It is also one I could see myself revisiting when I need it!

The last category I went for was science fiction and I did that so I could keep my favourite book of all time- Never Let Me Go. It is no secret that I adore this book and that it is one that I would be happy to reread.

You’re at the book store and you can hear a teenager telling their mother they don’t like to read, but their mother insists they pick something. You walk over and recommend a book you think is great for people who aren’t big on reading – what book is it?

I almost didn’t choose Project Hail Mary because it is almost 500 pages and might be intimidating for someone who doesn’t read much, but I think it is one of those books that you will not be able to put down once you start. I also think the fact that it is being adapted and Ryan Gosling is starring in it will be a strong selling point!

You’re not feeling yourself and need a pick me up. Which book do you read to put yourself in a good mood?

For me, it is any romance. That is my go-to genre when I am feeling down! Part of Your World is my new favourite and I will be rereading it when it comes out in April. There is something so charming about the setting and the dynamic between these two characters. It makes my heart happy!

You go back in time for a day to your teenage years. What book would you most likely have caught yourself reading?

I am not sure that I have ever mentioned this on the blog, but I was really into The Cat Who… series when I was a teenager. It is a very long cozy mystery series starring a cat and there are a lot of cat puns that I loved. The Cat Who Went Bananas is the one that I remember most!

Your friend surprises you with a four-day trip and you have one hour to pack. Which book do you bring to read on the way?

Like Ashlee, I would grab my Kindle and whatever my current read is. Right now, I am reading Pachinko, which I am loving but is not the best book to read on vacation! That is okay though because I never get much reading done on a trip anyway!

Your house has been robbed! Don’t worry – everyone is safe but your bookshelf has been raided. What’s the book you really hope is safe?

I am cheating here, but I would hope that my entire Pride and Prejudice collection remained intact. I have been collecting these for years and they make me so happy!

Your friend borrows a book and returns it in awful condition. Do you A) Just pretend you haven’t noticed, B) Ask them to repurchase it, or C) Secretly do the same thing to something of theirs?

I have had this happen and I just don’t say anything and then I am more careful about lending books to them the next time! I don’t lend my books out too much these days, but I trust everyone I do lend them to.

  1. I love this tag! Your Pride and Prejudice collection is very impressive. I wish I could collect all the pretty book editions…..

  2. Fun tag! I have Part of Your World, but haven’t got to it yet. And I just purchased Magic Lessons: A Prequel to Practical Magic on audio and I plan to listen to that series.

  3. Ahh what a fun tag! Never Let Me Go was such a stunning read. I read this so long ago and yet I still think about it from time to time.

  4. Love your P&P collection 🤩 I had just one mass market paperback of the same which I recently gave away, I’m hoping to purchase myself a collectors edition though I’m not sure which one I want

  5. I love your Pride and Prejudice collection! They all look so fun and different. (And really, doesn’t a collection of singular books count as one?)

This is a very fun tag, and I’m also adding Part of Your World to my TBR from it. Based solely on the cover!
