There are so many books I want to read ASAP, and, as a result, I am struggling to decide what to read next! I thought why not turn to the book community for their opinions, so I am may come to you for your help more often. I always want to hear your thoughts!
I am currently reading Unsettled Ground by Claire Fuller. She is one of my favourite authors and I really connect with her writing style. Bitter Orange was the best book I read in 2019. I was so thrilled to see that Unsettled Ground was shortlisted for The Women’s Prize for Fiction. I cannot believe it has taken me this long to finally read it. No surprise, I am loving it, even though it is devastating so far. It is less than 300 pages, so I will probably finish it very soon and will need to choose my next read. So, I would love to hear your thoughts on any of the books in the stack above. I am going to talk a little bit about each of the books and why I am interested in reading them right now!
Kazuo Ishiguro wrote two of my favourite books, Never Let Me Go and Klara and the Sun. I would love to eventually read his entire backlist, though it is extensive! The two on my immediate radar are The Remains of the Day and The Buried Giant, but I have had so many people tell me I am going to love The Remains of the Day, so I want to start there. Have you read it? It has the highest rating on Goodreads of all of his books, which is intriguing to me!
The Black Kids is set in LA in 1992 and follows Ashley whose sense of being changing after four LAPD officers are acquitted after beating Rodney King. I have never read a book set around this event and I have read some incredible reviews for The Black Kids. Even if I don’t end up reading it next, it is one I will read before the end of the summer. So many reviewers have commented on how amazing the writing is and that it is told from a unique perspective, so I am intrigued!
I found a signed edition of Wings of Ebony at Walmart and was so excited. This is one of my most anticipated books of the year, especially since I have really be into fantasy lately. Rue is half-human, half-god, which is a trope I often enjoy! Reviews have said that Wings of Ebony is more magical realism than high fantasy, which is definitely more within my comfort zone. Should I be starting a new series when I am already in the middle of so many? No! But I just can’t help myself!
I am so envious of everyone who received the gorgeous Illumicrate Edition of The Jasmine Throne! The stenciled edges are gorgeous! Anyway, there has been a lot of buzz for this one and I love the idea of a allyship between a captive princess and a maidservant who both possess forbidden magic. Give me all the forbidden magic books! While it is over 500 pages, I have a feeling it is going to be captivating and I will be fully immersed in the world.

I don’t know that I have a personal recommendation… but if you happen to have a four-sided die, you can always roll for it. Then if you strongly disagree with the way the die falls, you have a better idea of what you really want.

I voted Ishiguro, but it doesn’t look like it’s going to win. In my opinion it is on par with Never Let Me Go (I didn’t get on that well with Klara and the Sun). Also, I think Unsettled Ground is a solid read, although not my favourite from this year’s Women’s Prize longlist. Good to hear you enjoy it a well.
Wings of Ebony! It’s high on my list so I want to hear your thoughts on it haha

I voted for The Black Kids, mostly because I remember that time, and it was awful. I think it would be interesting to see some points of view of this event. But, they all look great!
I have read any of them but the two that caught my eye were The Black Kids and The Wings of Ebony. I ended up voting for The Wings of Ebony in the poll.
