Goodreads Choice Awards #2

This is part two of my discussion about the Goodreads Choice Awards and the books that I personally voted for and the books that I think are going to win. My last post had some interesting and valid comments about how the awards are a more of a popularity contest, and I wholeheartedly agree with that, as you will see reflected in the books that I think will win.

There are a few nonfiction categories, which just highlight how terrible I have been at reading nonfiction this year! There are many books that have been nominated in each of the nonfiction categories that are on my TBR, and I would love to read before the end of the year. That includes Why Fish Don’t Exist, Vesper Flights, Hidden Valley Road, and 999.

The only nonfiction category I have read from is Best Memoir & Autobiography, and I voted for All Boys Aren’t Blue, one of my favourite books of the year. I also read Untamed and enjoyed it!

I do not know enough about any of the books in these categories to begin guessing the winners!

As far as graphic novels go, I have only read Heartstopper, but it is no secret how much I adore that series!

I adore a good debut novel, so I was happy to see that I have read five of the books on the list. Cemetery Boys was definitely my favourite, but One to Watch, The Jane Austen Society, Such a Fun Age, and My Dark Vanessa were all books I enjoyed.

Many of the other books are already on my TBR. I am especially excited to read Real Life, The Girl With the Louding Voice, and The Year of Witching.

The Bone Shard Daughter is the only book I had not heard of, but instantly added it to my TBR!

My Predicted Winner: Once again, I think Such a Fun Age will win because it was so popular!

I feel like I read quite a bit of YA this year, but I have read only two books that were nominated for best YA Fiction. It was next to impossible to choose between Grown and Clap When You Land. I settled on Grown because Tiffany D. Jackson is an author I discovered for the first time this year and have now read almost everything she has written. Grown is a book that has been haunting me since I read it!

So many of the other books are on my TBR, but The Henna Wars and Felix Ever After are the two I am most excited about!

My Predicted Winner: I think that Clap When You Land has a good chance of winning, and that would make me so happy!

I have actually read four of the books that were nominated for best YA Fantasy & SciFi, and I almost voted for Cemetery Boys again because I loved it so much, but I was disappointed to see that Raybearer wasn’t nominated and it ended up being the only category where I wrote in a vote. I am hoping that others do the same and that it ends up on the list in the next round. I know I am not the only one who absolutely adored this book, so I have hope!

The other books I have read are All the Stars and Teeth, Cinderella is Dead, and A Song of Wraiths and Ruin (which I also almost voted for!).

If Cemetery Boys or A Song of Wraiths and Ruin won, I would be thrilled. I also want to read Legendborn before the year is over, and I have a feeling I will also love that one.

My Predicted Winner: Midnight Sun…

So let me know what you think! How do you feel about the awards in general? Do you agree or disagree with any of my votes! Tell me all the things!

  1. I would be more excited for this yearā€™s Goodreads choice awards if I had kept up with the books coming out and read what I actually wanted. In previous years, Iā€™ve managed to keep up and read at least a few of the books. This year, Iā€™ve read books from maybe four or five categories, tops. I even voted for books I wanted to read this year and did not, like One to Watch or My Dark Vanessa. Just because I wish I had.

  2. I always love voting for these! I was kinda disappointed in how many books I’ve read from all the categories.. ahha! And I only want to vote for books I’ve actually read!

  3. I really hope cemetery boys wins, even though I haven’t read it – the fact that it broke records and has such great representation would be amazing. Although such a fun age was also really amazing ~ this year, like every year, it’s so difficult to choose one book for each category!
