I have done quite a few Halloween tags over the years, which you can find here, but I was looking for something new when I came across the Halloween Book Covers tag. I love a good book cover and this looked like a lot of fun. The idea is to share a book cover that represents each of the prompts. The tag was created by Kristen @ Metaphors and Moonlight.
All of the books on this list are ones I have read or that are on my TBR.
SKULLS/SKELETON/BONES

I am so surprised that I haven’t read more books with skulls on the cover! Unfortunately, for me the cover of All the Stars and Teeth is much better than the book itself. I think I went into it with my expectations too high!
PUMPKINS

I have a seen a lot of people reading cozy mysteries this year, and they look like a lot of fun! I know I am not the only one seeking out comforting reads this year. I recently stumbled upon Curses and Cauldrons, which is an anthology of paranormal cozy short stories, which seems like the perfect way to get into the genre. Also, how cute and festive is that cover!?
BLOOD

One of my favourite covers. It is so simple yet so striking!
SPIDERS, BATS, OR OTHER CREEPY CREATURES

I went with snakes for this prompt! I know there are a lot of books with snakes on the cover, but there is something so stunning about this one.
SOMETHING WITCHY

This has to be one of the cutest covers ever! It is a witch and a werewolf, so that is a bonus.
SEVERED BODY PART
FULL MOON

I instantly knew the book I was going to choose for this prompt. You have to see this cover in person- it is gorgeous!!
CEMETERY

Are we at all surprised?!
HAUNTED HOUSE

You wouldn’t expect a memoir to have a sort of haunted house on the cover, but In the Dream House was haunting in a different way. I think about this book often.
GHOST

Why was it so hard to find a book with a ghost on the cover? I guess because they are invisible? I read Hereafter ages ago and remember absolutely nothing about it. It is kind of a cool cover though!
CLASSIC MONSTER (VAMPIRE, WEREWOLF, MUMMY, FRANKENSTEIN MONSTER, ETC.)

My favourite book about vampires! I am not a fan of this edition, but I just had to share this book. A must read!
CANDY

I keep going back and forth on whether I want to read Baby Teeth. I have heard so many mixed things!
SOMEONE IN A COSTUME OR MASK

I know that Incarnate was popular years ago, but I never got around to reading it. I would love to read something Jodi Meadows has written on her own, as I did love My Lady Jane so much.
ORANGE AND BLACK

I did not have a lot of orange and black covers to choose from- doesn’t seem to be a very popular colour combinations. Turtles All the Way Down is probably my favourite John Green novel though!
SOMETHING CREEPY

Do I have to explain this one!? Look how creepy! It is no surprise that two of Grady Hendrix’s novels ended up on this list.

What is your favourite creepy cover?

Curses and Cauldrons sounds like a great book for the spooky season and the cover is adorable! I loved Julie Kagawa’s Iron Fey series … so I will have to give The Immortal Rules a read, too. 🙂
Doesn’t it look cute?! I highly recommend The Immortal Rules- I really think you will love it.
aaah I love these in the dream house especially sticks out to me. great post!
It is such a haunting cover!
These are just perfect for the season indeed!
Love these covers!!
omg this is such a fun tag!!! i love the questions and your answers <3
It was fun!!
OMG, seeing The Immortal Rules on your list, it makes me feel so emotional!! 🥺✨ I LOVE that trilogy, it’s one of my faves, they’re also one of the best vampires I’ve read.
I can’t stop recommending it 😍👏🏻
It’s my favourite vampire series hands down. I talk about it all the time. So underrated!!
This sounds like a super fun tag! I remember Incarnate and it’s on my TBR but I also haven’t gotten to it and I had an ARC for that one 😭
Ah it was a popular book at the time!
