Witchy Book Recommendations

You may know by now that I am part of a witchy book club and if you tell me a book has witches in it there is a good chance I will add it to my TBR. That means I am constantly reading witchy books and while not all of them are wins, a lot of them are. Since this is the best time of year to read witchy books, here are some that I have read and love and should be on your radar.

The Unmarked Witch/The Unbound Witch is such an underrated duology and trust me when I saw that even if you read book one and you don’t absolutely love it, you must still give book two a try. It goes in a direction that I never would have suspected and it was so refreshing, especially as someone who is trying to figure out what I like in romantasy.

Wooing the Witch Queen is an interesting mix of cozy fantasy and romantasy. I loved the dynamic between Saskia and Fabian and how she slowly showed her softer side. The magic was intriguing and I need to read more books about poison magic. Would love to know if you have any recommendations!

CJ Cooke is an auto-buy author for me and I think she excels when writing about witches. If you are a historical fiction lover, you must check her out. The Book of Witching is her 2024 release but I also highly recommend The Lighthouse Witches and she has a new book called The Last Witch that comes out this month. Her books are told in two timelines that parallel one another and The Book of Witching was haunting and I continue to think about.

It felt like we were waiting for A Witch’s Guide to Magical Innkeeping for ages and it was well worth it. Dare I say I liked this one even more than The Very Secret Society for Irregular Witches? The found family vibes were immaculate and the romance was adorable. I think the ending will be divisive but I love that about it.

The Vampire’s Bargain is self published and entirely underrated. I have read a few books that feature vampires and vampire hunters, but I think that this is the best of them. I appreciated the witchy elements and there were so many layers to this story. It does something unique and it is a new take on the “shadow daddy” trope. The end was a whirlwind and I cannot wait for the release of book two!

The Briar Book of the Dead took me by surprise and I am so happy that A.G. Slatter has an extensive backlist. I read their 2025 release, A Far Better Thing, earlier this year and it is one of my favourites. The Briar Book of the Dead has that typical trope of a person born into a family of witches but they themselves do not have any power. I love that set up!

Best Hex Ever is a fun one if you are like me and you enjoy contemporary witchy romances. This also takes place over a wedding weekend, which is always fun for me. There are a lot of great food descriptions as well, which is always a bonus.

I have read a few books from Rachel Harrison and I think Cackle is my favourite. It is a character study more than anything and that is what kept me invested. I also appreciated the sense of humour!
