Cozy Book Recommendations

Welcome to another Top Ten Tuesday! I love having an excuse to gush about some cozy books because I cannot get enough of them and I have fallen back in love with cozy fantasy lately. I will be sitting with my Goodreads open and taking recommendations from everyone today!

It wouldn’t feel right to not include Emily Wilde’s Encyclopaedia of Faeries, even though I have talked about it ad nauseam. It is one of the few books I have read multiple times and I will never get tired of it. I love the dynamic between Emily and Wendell and I connect with Heather Fawcett’s sense of humour. The entire trilogy is satisfying and like a warm hug, even though there are higher stakes than you might expect at first!

A Fellowship of Bakers and Magic is a must read for foodies! It is like the Great British Baking Show but make it historical and magical. I thought this was so charming and very romance forward. There are some adorable side characters and I desperately need to continue on with the series.

I love everything that I have read from Sarah Beth Durst and I think The Enchanted Greenhouse is at the top of the list. I also adored The Spellshop, which is set in the same world. I like that she is leaning more into cozy fantasy and we are getting more in the vein from her next year. Give me all of the books with sentient plants that you have to offer!

You will notice that a lot of books on my list involve witches because I am who I am, but I love when I find a cozy fantasy that does something different and that is why Greenteeth is one of the best books I have read so far this year. The main character is a lake monster who is sent on a quest and makes friends along the way and it is so heartwarming.

We have been waiting for A Witch’s Guide to Magical Innkeeping for ages and let me tell you it was well worth it! I think the reason why I love cozy fantasy as much as I do is because there is often found family and I think this book is the epitome of that trope. I was so endeared by all of the characters and their love for one another.

I think that Wooing the Witch Queen is a good mix between romantasy and cozy. There are higher stakes than what I would typically expect from a cozy fantasy, but the majority of it is set in a library and the MMC is such a cinnamon roll, so you can’t help but smile despite everything that is going on.

The Cottage Around the Corner is basically You’ve Got Mail but make it witchy, so give it a shot if that sounds like something you’d like!

There are a lot of T. Kingfisher books I could have included on this list but I had to go with my all time favourite, A Wizard’s Guide to Defensive Baking. It is middle grade and so delightful. I mean there is a sentient sourdough starer and a gingerbread army. What more do you need?

I wasn’t sure how I would feel about talking animals as main characters but it somehow worked in Shady Hallow. It is basically a cozy mystery but it is set in a forest and follow woodland creatures as the main characters and it was adorable. There are quite a few books in this series and I need to catch up!

I need to find more cozy fantasy graphic novels because Garlic and the Vampire is one of my favourite things! I reread it every October because it is so short but brings me so much joy. If you think the idea of having animals is out there, imagine reading about sentient vegetables? Sounds ridiculous and it is but it works!

  1. These all look great! For cozy graphic novels, here’s some that I love:
    * Nimona by N.D. Stevenson
    * Mooncakes by Suzanne Walker
    * the Tea Dragon books by Kay O’Neill
    * The Dire Days of Willowweep Manor by Shaenon K. Garrity
