I saw Zoraida Cordova and Pride and Prejudice in space and instantly added Relit to my TBR! There are so many incredible anthologies out there that appeal to me that I keep neglecting and I am determined to not let that happen in this case,
Leap years are a strange, enchanted time. And for some, even a single February can be life-changing.
Ricki Wilde has many talents, but being a Wilde isnโt one of them. As the impulsive, artistic daughter of a powerful Atlanta dynasty, sheโs the opposite of her famous socialite sisters. Where theyโre long-stemmed roses, sheโs a an adorable bloom thatโs actually a weed, born to float wherever the wind blows. In her bones, Ricki knows that somewhere, a different, more exciting life awaits her.
When regal nonagenarian, Ms. Della, invites her to rent the bottom floor of her Harlem brownstone, Ricki jumps at the chance for a fresh beginning. She leaves behind her family, wealth, and chaotic romantic decisions to realize her dream of opening a flower shop. And just beneath the surface of her new neighbourhood, the music, stories and dazzling drama of the Harlem Renaissance still simmers.
One evening in February as the heady, curiously off-season scent of night-blooming jasmine fills the air, Ricki encounters a handsome, deeply mysterious stranger who knocks her world off balance in the most unexpected way.
Set against the backdrop of modern Harlem and Renaissance glamour,ย A Love Song for Ricki Wildeย is a swoon-worthy love story of two passionate artists drawn to the magic, romance, and opportunity of New York, and whose lives are uniquely and irreversibly linked.
Seven Days in June was one of the best romances I read last year and I am so thrilled we are getting a new romance from Tia Williams. I have heard A Love Song for Ricki Wilde is set in the same world and that it is also historical fiction. The reviews are vague and that has me super intrigued!
In Daretanaโs most opulent mansion, a high Imperial officer lies deadโkilled, to all appearances, when a tree spontaneously erupted from his body. Even in this canton at the borders of the Empire, where contagions abound and the blood of the Leviathans works strange magical changes, itโs a death at once terrifying and impossible.
Called in to investigate this mystery is Ana Dolabra, an investigator whose reputation for brilliance is matched only by her eccentricities.
At her side is her new assistant, Dinios Kol. Din is an engraver, magically altered to possess a perfect memory. His job is to observe and report, and act as his superiorโs eyes and earsโquite literally, in this case, as among Anaโs quirks are her insistence on wearing a blindfold at all times, and her refusal to step outside the walls of her home.
Din is most perplexed by Anaโs ravenous appetite for information and her mindโs frenzied leapsโnot to mention her cheerful disregard for propriety and the apparent joy she takes in scandalizing her young counterpart. Yet as the case unfolds and Ana makes one startling deduction after the next, he finds it hard to deny that she is, indeed, the Empireโs greatest detective.
As the two close in on a mastermind and uncover a scheme that threatens the safety of the Empire itself, Din realizes heโs barely begun to assemble the puzzle that is Ana Dolabraโand wonders how long heโll be able to keep his own secrets safe from her piercing intellect.
Featuring an unforgettable Holmes-and-Watson style pairing, a gloriously labyrinthine plot, and a haunting and wholly original fantasy world, The Tainted Cup brilliantly reinvents the classic mystery tale.
I already know that I am going to absolutely fall in love with Ana! She sounds like my kind of character! I have never read anything by Rover Jackson Bennett but I love the sound of The Tainted Cup. I will always be drawn to mysteries that have speculative elements!

Dash & Lilyย meetsย Ferris Buellerโs Day Offย in Edward Underhillโs new whirlwind rom-com about two queer teens who spend one life-changing day together in New York City.
Abby Akerman believes in the Universe. After all, her Midwest high school marching band is about to perform in the Macyโs Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York Cityโif thatโs not proof that magical things can happen, what is? New York also happens to be the setting of her favorite romance novel, making it the perfect place for Abby to finally tell her best friend Kat that sheโs in love with her (and, um, gay). Sheโs carefully annotated a copy of the book as a gift for Kat, and sheโs counting on the Universe to provide an Epic Scene worthy of her own rom-com.
Leo Brewer, on the other hand, just wants to get through this trip without falling apart. He doesnโt believe the Universe is magical at all, mostly because heโs about to be outed to his very Southern extended family on national TV as the trans boy he really is. Heโs not excited for the parade, and heโs even less excited for an entire day of sightseeing with his band.
But the Universe has other ideas. When fate throws Abby and Leo together on the wrong subway train, they soon find themselves lost in the middle of Manhattan. Even worse, Leo accidentally causes Abby to lose her Epic Gift for Kat. So to salvage the day, they come up with a new mission: find a souvenir from every location mentioned in the book for Abby to give Kat instead. But as Leo and Abby traverse the city, from the streets of Chinatown to the halls of Grand Central Station and the top of the Empire State Building, their initial expectations for the tripโand of each otherโbegin to shift. Maybe, if they let it, this could be the day that changes everything, for both of them.

I love that This Day Changes Everything takes place over the course of the day! There is something about that trope in a love story that feels so nostalgic to me.

2024 is shaping up the year of Katherine Arden for me (I just marathoned The Winternight Trilogy!) and I cannot complain. I donโt love war stories but it is Katherine Arden so I will definitely be checking out The Warm Hands of Ghosts when it comes out.
A debut novel full of magic, adventure, and romance,ย The Book of Doorsย opens up a thrilling world of contemporary fantasy for readers ofย The Midnight Library,ย The Invisible Life of Addie Larue,ย The Night Circus, and any modern story that mixes the wonder of the unknown with just a tinge of darkness.
Cassie Andrews works in a New York City bookshop, shelving books, making coffee for customers, and living an unassuming, ordinary life. Until the day one of her favorite customersโa lonely yet charming old manโdies right in front of her. Cassie is devastated. She always loved his stories, and now she has nothing to remember him by. Nothing but the last book he was reading.ย ย
But this is no ordinary bookโฆ
It is the Book of Doors.ย
Inscribed with enigmatic words and mysterious drawings, it promises Cassie thatย any door is every door. You just need to know how to open them.
Then sheโs approached by a gaunt stranger in a rumpled black suit with a Scottish brogue who calls himself Drummond Fox. Heโs a librarian who keeps watch over a unique set of rare volumes. The tome now in Cassieโs possession is not the only book with great power, but itย isย the one most coveted by those who collect them.
Now Cassie is being hunted by those few who know of the Special Books. With only her roommate Izzy to confide in, she has to decide if she will help the mysterious and haunted Drummond protect the Book of Doorsโand the other books in his secret libraryโs careโfrom those who will do evil. Because only Drummond knows where the unique library is and only Cassieโs book can get them there.ย
But there are those willing to kill to obtain those secrets. And a dark forceโin the form of a shadowy, sadistic womanโis at the very top of that list.
Give me all of the books about books! I live for them! The Book of Doors sounds super unique and I think I am going to love both the mystery and the romance.
Retired soldier, Alex Easton, returns in a horrifying new adventure.
After their terrifying ordeal at the Usher manor, Alex Easton feels as if they just survived another war. All they crave is rest, routine, and sunshine, but instead, as a favor to Angus and Miss Potter, they find themself heading to their family hunting lodge, deep in the cold, damp forests of their home country, Gallacia.
In theory, one can find relaxation in even the coldest and dampest of Gallacian autumns, but when Easton arrives, they find the caretaker dead, the lodge in disarray, and the grounds troubled by a strange, uncanny silence. The villagers whisper that a breath-stealing monster from folklore has taken up residence in Eastonโs home. Easton knows better than to put too much stock in local superstitions, but they can tell that something is not quite right in their home. . . or in their dreams.
I didnโt know that I needed a sequel to What Moves the Dead but I will take one! I am so ready to read What Feasts at Night the moment it comes out and will definitely be listening to it on audio since I loved the narrator for book one.
Sumptuous and addictive,ย An Education in Maliceย is a dark academia tale of blood, secrets and insatiable hungers from Sunday Times bestselling author S.T. Gibson, author of the cult hitย A Dowry of Blood.
Deep in the forgotten hills of Massachusetts stands Saint Perpetuaโs College. Isolated and ancient, it is not a place for timid girls. Here, secrets are currency, ambition is lifeblood, and strange ceremonies welcome students into the fold.
On her first day of class, Laura Sheridan is thrust into an intense academic rivalry with the beautiful and enigmatic Carmilla. Together, they are drawn into the confidence of their demanding poetry professor, De Lafontaine, who holds her own dark obsession with Carmilla.
But as their rivalry blossoms into something far more delicious, Laura must confront her own strange hungers. Tangled in a sinister game of politics, bloodthirsty professors and dark magic, Laura and Carmilla must decide how much they are willing to sacrifice in their ruthless pursuit of knowledge.
I have an eARC of An Education in Malice and need to get to it before release dates because my friends who have read it have loved it! S.T. Gibson is quickly becoming one of my favourite authors.
Chemistry sizzles in this workplace rom-com set in the world of high school basketball from the author ofย Love & Other Disasters , named a โmust-readโ by ย USA Today , PopSugar, SheReads, and Harper Bazaar.ย

I am currently reading How You Get the Girl and loving it, of course! Anita Kelly is an auto-buy author for me for a reason! I think they have this amazing way of creating relatable characters and building chemistry between them.
Perfect for fans ofย Uprootedย andย For the Wolf, a dark and addictive tale of witches, ancient mysteries and sins that refuse to be buried from the award-winning author ofย All the Murmuring Bones.
To the outside world,ย Silvertonย appears not to matter much at all. It sits on a remote mountain pass, far from the great cathedral city of Lodellan. Itโs run by witches who, in the usual scheme of things, would be burnt. Yet a dispensation keeps the Briars safe for one simple, dangerous they are the custodians of the threshold between the civilised world and the Darklands, where Leech Lords hold sway. Vampires are especially feared by the ecclesiastics, for leeches steal souls as well as bodies, and mortal souls are the Churchโs most valuable currency.
However, things are changing in Silverton, with new forces coming into play and ancient mysteries and sins refusing to stay buried โ and Anni Briar, the first non-witch born into the family for three hundred years, will find herself at the centre of the maelstrom.
A.G. Slatter is an author who I have been curious about for a long time! The Briar Book of the Dead has both witches and vampires, so I think it is the book that I will get to first!
Love may last a lifetime, but in this dark historical fantasy, the bitterness of rejection endures for centuries.
As a young woman seeks vengeance on the obsessed sorcerer who murdered her because he could not have her, her murderer sends projections of himself out into the world to seek out and seduce women who will return the love she deniedโor suffer mortal consequence. A lush, gothic journey across worlds full of strange characters and even stranger magic.
Sarah Porterโs adult debut explores misogyny and the soul-corrupting power of unrequited love through an enchanted lens of violence and revenge.
The cover of Projections is eerie yet beautiful and I have a feeling we will be getting the same tone in the story itself. It definitely sounds like it is taking on some difficult themes but I am intrigued by it.
Two sisters roll up their sleeves to run a dilapidated, beach town inn but must learn to work with the locals in this deliciously spicyย Sense and Sensibilityย inspired rom-com by Nikki Payne.
Thereโs never a good time to learnย youโreย your fatherโs secret second familyโespecially not at the reading of the will. To add insult to injury, Noraโs racy leaked videos just went viral. Nora Dash has got no reputation, no dad, and only a forgotten beach house in rural Maine to her name. There are no other Black people for miles, the place is abandoned, but at least no one will recognize her O face in the backwoods. She and her free-spirited sister Yanne havenโt even knocked the traveling dust off last seasonโs designer boots when the first problem pops up: a fake park ranger giving tours of their property like itโs his ownโand heโs hotter than the local lobster boil.
Ennis โBearโ Freeman is used to people showing up unannounced on his land. So when a beautiful city girl shows up with the deed to his unofficial headquarters in one manicured hand, he gives it a week before their whole crew packs up and leaves. But it isnโt long before they find out they work better together than apart. To his surprise, Noraโs damned good for Bearโs business, and his own secrets might turn out to be the thing that sends them packing.
I am always up for a Jane Austen retelling and the fact that Sex, Lies, and Sensibility is also spicy makes me all the more excited to try it!
A painfully average teenโs life is upended by a magical apocalypse in this darkly atmospheric and sweepingly romantic novel perfect for fans of The Raven Boys , Buffy the Vampire Slayer , and The Rest of Us Just Live Here .
High school is hard enough to survive without an apocalypse to navigate.
Sid Spencer has always been the most normal girl in her abnormal hometown, a tourist trap built over one of the fault lines that seal magic away from the world. Between magic, murderers, and burgeoning crushes, Sid must survive being a perfectly normal girl caught in a perfectly abnormal apocalypse.
Onlyโhow can someone so ordinary make it in such an extraordinary world?
The cat on the cover of Dead Things are Closer than they Appear obviously caught my eye but I also love a ragtag crew trying to save the world!

The cover for My Throat an Open Grave always gets to me! I have had a few people tell me they read the ARC and really enjoyed this so I am excited about it.

Culinary student Lexi Berman, 24, has one goal: to make her late mother proud by becoming an executive chef in a Michelin-star restaurant. And she isnโt going to let anythingโor anyoneโget in the way. But when she meets Jake Taylor, a dive bar musician who charms her with show tunes, she makes a rare exception to her no-dating rule. After a steamy weekend together, Jake leaves for L.A. to record his demo, and Lexi never expects to see him again. And she definitely doesnโt expect him to become an overnight celebrity, with a breakout single thatโs almost certainly about her famous blueberry pancake recipe.
As Jakeโs star rises and the world speculates about the subject of his song, Lexi keeps the affair to herself. After all, sheโs finally found her footing at her new restaurant job, and even has a prospective romance with her coworker. But when a distraught Jake turns up on her doorstep late one night, her carefully-laid plans are thrown for a loop. Though she and Jake try to be friends, things between them soon reheat faster than a bowl of Lexiโs matzah ball soup. But a relationship with Jake means risking her face in tabloids, withstanding cruel internet comments, and worst of all, jeopardizing her career. As Jakeโs upcoming tour approaches, and rumors swirl about him and another pop star, Lexi has to decide if holding onto her meticulously-planned future is worth walking away from what could be the perfect recipe for love.
Set both in the chaos of fame and the high stakes world of New York City restaurants, this novel sprinkles in a second chance at love and a dollop of celebrity drama to create a romantic romp that will make even the most jaded reader smile.
I did not read enough foodie romances last year considering how much I love them! Till There Was You looks adorable and now I want pancakes.

Ellie loves working in her local library in the small town of Ligonier. She loves baking scones and investigating the mysterious and captivating in her spare time. Inspired by Sri Lankan folklore, award-winning author Amanda Jayatissa turns her feverish, Gothic-tinged talents to late 19th century Sri Lanka where the daughter of a traditional demon-priestโrelentlessly bullied by peers and accused of witchcraft herselfโtries to solve the mysterious attacks that have been terrorizing her coastal village.
Being the daughter of the village Capuwa, or demon-priest, Amara is used to keeping mostly to herself. Influenced by the new religious practices brought in by the British Colonizers, the villagers who once respected her fatherโs craft have turned on the family. Yet, they all still seem to call on him whenever supernatural disturbances arise.
Now someoneโor something โis viciously seizing upon men in the jungle. But instead of enlisting Amaraโs fatherโs help, the villages have accused him of carrying out the attacks himself.
As she tries to clear her fatherโs name, Amara finds herself haunted by dreams that eerily predict the dark forces on her island. And she canโt shake the feeling that itโs all connected to the night she was recovering from a strange illness, and woke up, scared and confused, to hear her motherโs frantic No one can find out what happened .
Lush, otherworldly, and recalling horror classics like Carrie and The Exorcist , Island Witch is a deliciously creepy and darkly feminist tale about the horrors of moral panic, the violent space between girlhood and adulthood, and what happens when female rage is finally unleashed.
For as much as I love witchy books, I do not read enough witchy horror and I think The Island Witch is going to change that for me. I have a good feeling about this one!

The eagerly awaited follow-up to Pulitzer Prize-finalist Tommy Orangeโs breakout best seller There There โwinner of the PEN/Hemingway Award, the John Leonard Prize, the American Book Award, and one of the New York Times 10 Best Books of 2018โ Wandering Stars traces the legacies of the Sand Creek Massacre of 1864 and the Carlisle Indian Industrial School through to the shattering aftermath of Orvil Red Featherโs shooting in There There.
Colorado, 1864. Star, a young survivor of the Sand Creek Massacre, is brought to the Fort Marion Prison Castle, where he is forced to learn English and practice Christianity by Richard Henry Pratt, an evangelical prison guard who will go on to found the Carlisle Indian Industrial School, an institution dedicated to the eradication of Native history, culture, and identity. A generation later, Starโs son, Charles, is sent to the school, where he is brutalized by the man who was once his fatherโs jailer. Under Prattโs harsh treatment, Charles clings to moments he shares with a young fellow student, Opal Viola, as the two envision a future away from the institutional violence that follows their bloodlines.
Oakland, 2018. Opal Viola Victoria Bear Shield is barely holding her family together after the shooting that nearly took the life of her nephew Orvil. From the moment he awakens in his hospital bed, Orvil begins compulsively googling school shootings on YouTube. He also becomes emotionally reliant on the prescription medications meant to ease his physical trauma. His younger brother, Lony, suffering from PTSD, is struggling to make sense of the carnage he witnessed at the shooting by secretly cutting himself and enacting blood rituals that he hopes will connect him to his Cheyenne heritage. Opal is equally adrift, experimenting with Ceremony and peyote, searching for a way to heal her wounded family.
Extending his constellation of narratives into the past and future, Tommy Orange once again delivers a story that is by turns shattering and wondrous, a book piercing in its poetry, sorrow, and rageโa masterful follow-up to his already-classic first novel, and a devastating indictment of Americaโs war on its own people.
There, There is a book I loved but donโt talk about enough! I have been waiting for something new from him and Wandering Stars sounds incredible!

A stunning Romantasy debut about an enchanted library, two handsome Fae, and one human who brings them all together.
A library with a deadly enchantment.
A Fae lord who wants in.
A human woman willing to risk it all for a taste of power.
In a land ruled by ruthless Fae, twenty-one-year-old Lore Alemeyuโs village is trapped in a forested prison. Lore knows that any escape attempt is futileโher scars are a testament to her past failures. But when her village is threatened, Lore makes a desperate deal with a Fae lord. She will leave her home to catalog/organize an enchanted library that hasnโt been touched in a thousand years. No Fae may enter the library, but there is a chance a human might be able to breach the cursed doors.
She convinces him that she will risk her life for wealth, but really sheโs after the one thing the Fae covet above all: magic of her own.

I read an eARC of The Lore of the Wilds and you will hear more of my thoughts in my wrap up, but I loved this and need everyone to read it so we can discuss it!
