I love having an excuse to talk about backlist books that deserve more attention. These are all books that I have read and loved but I am guilty of not talking about them enough!

I read When the Reckoning Comes for a horror readathon and it is the one book I read that week that I continue to think about. It is one of those horrors that relies on the evil of humanity for its scare factor and I thought it was so well done. It made me realize how much I enjoy horror mixed with social commentary.
Final Girls was my first book from Mira Grant and I have now read four of her works because I love what she does with SciFi horror! I also appreciate that she tends to write novellas, which is how I prefer my horror. If you are into conversations about simulations, particularly when it comes to ethics, definitely check this one out.
The Raven and the Reindeer was the first T. Kingfisher book I read this year and, of course, I adored it! This is one of her self-published works and is a Snow Queen retelling that feels so much like T. Kingfisher. I find all of her self-published works are underhyped and I will continue to bring them to your attention because they are great!
Unconquerable Sun was so intimidating to me but I devoured it. It is arguably my favourite space opera and I have been meaning to read more from Kate Elliott. She is definitely doing something unique when it comes to SFF!
Summer Sons is one of my favourite horror novels and I think it got some buzz when it first came out but that has definitely died done. If you are into weird horror, I think this is one worth reading.
Silvia Moreno-Garcia as an author gets a lot of hype (as she should!) but someone Certain Dark Things gets lost in the shuffle, even though it is my favourite of hers that I have read so far. Her take on vampires is so unique!
Hold Back the Tide is a YA horror that completely took me by surprise! I didn’t think I would like monster horror, but this proved me wrong. I need more recommendations if you have any!
I was going through my Goodreads and I was shocked by how few ratings Pumpkin has! Maybe that is because it is the last book in a series but these do not have to be read in order and this book was so much fun. I highly recommend it!
Punching the Air is a hard-hitting YA contemporary written in verse. I feel like we don’t get as many of those these days, which is too bad because I tend to enjoy them.
Let Me Hear a Rhyme is the first book I read from Tiffany D. Jackson and it is so different from everything else she has written so I don’t think that it gets the love that it deserves!
