I am rereading The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet for the Book Check Out Book Club and I am so happy to be back with these characters. I had a smile on my face from the first chapter because I was feeling all of the nostalgia and there is something about Becky Chamber’s writing that works for me!
Just Finished
Undercover is a short story and my first experience with Tamsyn Muir’s writing. This has made me more open to reading The Locked Tomb series because there is something captivating about Muir’s writing. This was surprisingly dark and gory for something that is 59 pages. I think I need to read more books about ghouls!
What the Dead Know is another short story in this collection and the last one I intend to read. I knew I had to pick it up because I adore Nghi Vo! I try not to say this about short stories, but I do think that this is one that would have benefitted from being longer. The vibes were right but I didn’t get a chance to really become invested or to feel the tension. I would still recommend it though because Nghi Vo is a genius at creating atmosphere!
I have said this before, but I have become picky about the YA contemporary that I read. I don’t know that I would have tried Highly Suspicious and Unfairly Cute if it were not written by Talia Hibbert. I am so glad I gave this a chance because I had a great time with it. I think it is the perfect book for the target audience. The banter between the characters was so much fun and I love academic rivals in YA for that reason. The OCD representation was also well done, but I would expect nothing less from Talia Hibbert.
I will be surprised if Emily Wilde’s Encyclopaedia of Faeries doesn’t end up on my “best books of the year” list. This was everything I was hoping for and more and I need to read all of the cozy fantasy romance that is out there. I thought that Heather Fawcett found the perfect balance between cozy vibes and the plot. There were still high enough stakes to keep the story compelling and the banter between Emily and Wendell was so amazing. These are the kind of fae stories that I want to read about!
Starting Next
Yesterday, we got a cover reveal for the next book in the Murderbot series and that was a good reminder that I need to catch up with the series! I have read up to Exit Strategy and have been told that it is probably best to read Fugitive Telemetry first before going back and reading the full length novel, Network Effect. So that is my plan!

I was a little disappointed when I read Fugitive Telemetry because I didn’t realize when it released that it was essentially #4.5. I loved Network Effect though! I hope you enjoy them!

I just finished a friend’s novella, Rey Nichols’s Taken For Granted.
I’m reading an ARC of Linked by Rachel Rener (Book 3 in the Gilded Blood series). All I can say so far is YES!!
I’M also reading a chapter a day of Throne of Glass.
Next, maybe I’ll get to Grady Hendrix How To Sell A Haunted House. But I do have the ARC of Sea Castle by Andrew Mayne, Book 4 in the Underwater Investigation Unit.

I think your Murderbot reading plan makes a lot of sense. Since the novellas and full novels seem to each have their own separate series arcs, with the novels happening sometime after the novellas, that reading order makes the most sense. I’m probably going to re-read Network Effect before picking up System Collapse at the end of the year, but I don’t think I’ll need to re-read the novellas, too. (I might decide I *want* to, though. We’ll see.)
