I already shared my favourite “new to me” authors of 2022, so I thought it would be fun to put together a list of authors I haven’t read from and whose work I would love to explore in 2023!
Isabel Allende
I didn’t realize just how extensive Isabel Allende’s backlist truly is! I will probably start with Violeta because it is the one that has been recommended to me the most, but I am hoping I will love it and want to try more from her. If you are a fan of hers, I would love any recommendations of where to go next!
S.A. Chakraborty
I have been curious about S.A. Chakraborty for years now and I know a lot of people adore the Daevabad series. I think I will be reading her 2023 release, The Adventures of Amina al-Shirafi first and hopefully that will finally motivate me to read The City of Brass!
Roshani Chokshi
Much like S.A. Chakraborty, Roshani Chokshi’s books have been on my radar for years and I will be starting with her 2023 release! The Last Tale of the Flower Bride sounds like something I will love because I am all about Gothic fiction.
P. Djèlí Clark
P. Djeli Clark has been recommended to me many times and I have a feeling I will love his work. I am going to start with Ring Shout because it is a novella and I have the audiobook downloaded already.
Darcy Coates
A lot of my bookish friends adore Darcy Coates, so I want to try her stuff! I have a feeling that her books fit perfectly into the genre of horror that I like. I am sad because her books used to be on Kindle Unlimited but they aren’t there anymore. I do have Gallows Hill downloaded though, so I hope to get to it soon.
Louise Erdrich
I include Louise Erdrich any time I make a list like this one! It is ridiculous that I haven’t read from her yet, especially since I have three of her books sitting on my TBR cart. I still think she will become a favourite!
Jennifer Hillier
I have become so picky about thrillers lately, but I have this feeling that Jennifer Hillier will work for me. I have The Butcher downloaded from Kindle Unlimited, so I hope to get to it soon!
Victoria Lee
Victoria Lee has been recommended to me many times and I received a copy of The Fever King for Christmas! A Shot in the Dark is her 2023 release, and it looks fantastic!
Rebecca Ross
I love atmospheric writing and I have a feeling that is exactly what I will get with Rebecca Ross! A River Enchanted has been getting amazing reviews, but I own a copy of Dreams Lie Beneath, so I plan to read that one first.
Django Wexler
Ashes of the Sun and Blood of the Chosen are the first two books in the Burningblade and Silvereye series, both of which I own. I didn’t realize just how many books Django Wexler has published and many of them intrigue me, but I think The Thousand Names is the one I will try if I read and love Burningblade and Silvereye.

Allende and Erdrich are two of my favorites! Though for Allende I strongly recommend her older works. Erdrich has so many good ones, I loved The Night Watchman.
I have a feeling they will become favourites for me as well! That is good to know about Allende!

I’ve only read A Lesson In Vengeance of Victoria Lee’s books and I definitely want to read more of them!

There are a lot of great books on this list. I’m a huge Isabelle Allende fan. I haven’t read everything by her, but I really like what I did read. Her book about Zorro was especially interesting. I also like Darcy Coates. She writes some great haunted house books.
That is good to hear about Zorro! It is one of the books I was looking at.
I love a good haunted house story, so I really think Darcy Coates will work for me!
Jennifer Hillier! I love her books! I still need to read The Butcher.
I really enjoyed The Sentence by Louise Erdrich–it was my first read this year! I’ll definitely be picking up some of her other books.

I’m making the Throne of Glass omnibus by Sarah J. Maas my yearly reading goal. It’s not a new to me author since I read ACOTAR last year but it’s one of my goals. I might read Ana Huang’s trilogy. But I have ARCs to get through!

Oh my goodness – so many of these look good! I’ve Erdrich on my list for years …. maybe this is the year I actually read one! I love finding new authors and this week is certainly adding to my TBR with every visit!

What a great topic and list! I’ve read quite a few of Isabel Allende’s books (although not Violeta — yet). I’d say go back to the beginning and read The House of the Spirits, which is just a masterpiece! Daughter of Fortune is great too. It’s hard to go wrong with her books. Louise Erdrich is a beautiful writer, but I haven’t loved everything I’ve read by her. Two that I thought were amazing are LaRose and The Round House, but I do want to go back and read her earlier books still. Good luck!
I’ve really enjoyed both Roshani Chokshi and SA Chakraborty in the past and will be reading both their 2023 releases. I’m all caught up on SA Chakraborty, but I still need to read The Bronzed Beasts, the final book in Roshani Chokshi’s Gilded Wolves trilogy, so I’m hoping I’ll do that this year. I also want to read Victoria Lee and I think I’ll probably start with A Lesson In Vengeance as that’s the one of hers that I already own.
