I love a good bookstore! Whenever I am planning a vacation, the first thing I do is look up the bookstores. There are so many stunning ones out there, but these are the ones that are on my bucket list.
The Strand
The Strand is iconic and I would love to visit it when I eventually visit New York again. There are actually a ton of bookstores in New York that I want to visit and I could probably plan an entire trip around doing so.
Gay’s the Word
Gay’s the Word is the oldest LGBT bookstore in London! I have seen a lot of booktubers post vlogs of them shopping there and it always makes me so jealous.
Shakespeare and Company
Shakespeare and Company is another bookstore that many people within the book community adore and it is located in Paris. Goals!
The Last Bookstore
The Last Bookstore is located in Los Angeles and it is huge!
Atlantis Books
How adorable is Atlantis Books!? It is located in Santorini, Greece and it is so too pretty!
Libreria Acqua Alta
Libreria Acqua Alta is located in Venice and they have embraced the flooding by storing books in bathtubs and boats. So clever!
Word On The Water
Word on the Water is a floating bookshop located in London and, apparently, there is a parrot. So fun!

I love buying books on vacation!
I almost never buy any books (or yarn) on vacation! It’s something I want to get more mindful of doing, though.
I’ve seen the Strand on so many lists and it was never on my radar. I guess I need to do a little different research when we travel! Fun bookstores – wish we all had the $$ / time to visit them ALL! Hope you have a great week and find time to read a good book.

That’s a cool idea; looking up book stores when you travel. If I actually went places, that would be something I should add to my pre-plan list. 🙂 When I was a kid, my grandmother took us to the bookstore that she went to once in a while, and it was fun just because it was something to do with her. 🙂

That’s a fun idea – look up book stores if you travel. I should do that, only I never go anywhere. 😉 When I was a kid, my grandmother took us to a book store she went too out by where she lives, but beyond that, I rarely make it to any place outside of a Barnes and Noble. 🙂
I’ve been to The Strand. It’s crazy-packed with books. So much so that it actually made me feel a little claustrophobic, LOL. I’ve walked past Shakespeare and Company. Unfortunately, there were still COVID restrictions in place when I was in Paris last year and the store was limiting how many people could be inside at one time. It made for really long lines and we just didn’t have the time to wait, unfortunately. I hope you get to visit some of these!

In the Netherlands my favorite bookstore is “dominicanenkerk boekenwinkel” , if you look it up on Google Images, you might see why! I’ve visited 3 or 4 times in the last few years, even though its 2.5 hours drive <3

The only one I’ve been to is Shakespeare & Company. It’s in a touristy part of Paris (Latin Quarter) so it’s not too much of a trek to visit. I went a couple of years ago now, but they had used books – which was nice for the wallet in a spendy city!
I think it’s also a nice resource of English-reading Parisians as well. I’m sure it’s much better in the big city compared to where I was living in France, but it can be hard to find English novels for affordable prices. I remember I had to buy a book off Amazon Germany once, because I couldn’t find it anywhere near me in France.
I love when a bookstore has a mix of new and used books! That’s a good point! I did think it was interesting that it was an English bookstore in France.
I’ve always wanted to visit The Strand. I don’t have a list of libraries I’d want to visit, but this one would make the cute. The others look like you could spends hours in there ,😍📚
