How is it this time of year already? This is a tag I do every year as we transition into the final few months of the year. It is a great way to reflect on your reading so far and to get a clearer picture of the goals you have set for the rest of the year.
Are there any books you started this year that you need to finish?
I was buddy reading A Song for Arbonne this summer and was really enjoying it, but I was listening to it on audio and found that there were too many characters to keep track of and intense world-building to visualize, so I think reading it physically would be best. I have put this off until I manage to track down a physical copy, but I am excited to finish my first book from Guy Gavriel Kay.
I participated in a T. Kingfisher readathon in July and managed to read five of her books. I was about 30% into The Wonder Engine by the end of the readathon and I think I was just a little burnt out on T. Kingfisher, so I put it down. I was loving it though, so I am determined to finish it before the end of 2022.
Do you have an autumnal book to transition into the end of the year?
There are so many! I am slowly making my way through my Fall TBR, but there are three autumnal books not on that list that I would love to get to in October. In the Company of Witches is a cozy mystery and it is the first book for the Cozy Hollow Book Club. I have fallen in love with cozies, so I am thrilled that this book club exists. Ordinary Monsters is almost 700 pages and is said to be a mix of Stranger Things and X-Men! I know it will be a commitment, but it is calling to me. A Witch in Time was recommended to me for the 12 Challenge and I have been dying to read it ever since. It sounds like something I am going to love!
Is there a new release you’re still waiting for?
I just shared my most anticipated October releases, so I will talk about a few November and December releases on my list! Heart of the Sun Warrior is the sequel to The Daughter of the Moon Goddess, which is a book I read earlier in the year and adored. I am thrilled that we are getting the sequel so soon! Bloodmarked is the sequel to Legendborn! I actually have an eARC of this that I really need to prioritize because I am dying to know what happens. A Million to One is a heist novel that is set on the Titanic. Enough said!
What are three books you want to read before the end of the year?
I am looking at my answers for this tag last year and I have only read one of those books… I am the worst! Anyway, The Oleander Sword is the sequel to The Jasmine Throne, which was one of my best books of last year. If I do not read this before the end of the year, I will kick myself! Since I had The Golem and the Jinni on my list last year, it only feels right to put the sequel, The Hidden Palace, on it this year. The Cat Who Saved Books is a newer edition on my shelves, but I want to get to it ASAP. It is a shorter book and I am drawn to anything to do with cats.
Is there a book you think could still shock you and become your favourite book of the year?
I think The Oleander Sword could be a contender, but I have been loving all of the literary fiction I have been reading this year, so I think Great Circle could become my new favourite. It has been getting a lot of praise and it sounds like something I will love.
Have you already started making reading plans for 2022?
Of course, I have! My “2023 releases” shelf already has 121 books on it. I obviously won’t be reading all of those, but I will be talking about them throughout the year. I set some goals this year that I have completely ignored, so I am not sure if it is something I will do again. We will have to see how I am feeling!

Did the tag with a Caribbean twist https://wadadlipen.wordpress.com/2022/09/29/end-of-year-book-tag-caribbean
It seems so crazy that we’re already talking about end of the year stuff! I need to get on with my planning for 2023.
Wow, that’s a lot of 2023 releases you’re already tracking! I have a few on my radar, but nowhere near that many.
I am always on the lookout for them!
I’m so excited for Bloodmarked and A Million To One too!
Me too!! I preordered them both!
Excited to see someone else discovering A Song for Arbonne, it’s probably my book of the year, although I need to try The Hidden Palace soon too.
Ohh that’s good to hear! My copy of A Song For Arbonne is on its way to me!
For the 3 books you want to read by the end of the year, those are literally mine too! I’m so bad at keeping up with fantasy series 😂 The cat book is different from my usual reads but I’ve liked it so far!! So excited for Bloodmarked <3
I am terrible at it too! Even when the first books in the series are some of my favourites!
