WWW Wednesday (August 17th, 2022)

WWW Wednesday is hosted by Sam @ Taking on a World of Words! All you have to do is answers the following three questions:

What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

Currently Reading

I have finally returned to Malice by John Gwynne! I started this in July but then got distracted by readathons and romances, but I am back! I am 300 pages into this 600-page beast and it is just now starting to get interesting. I am intrigued by the themes of good vs evil and coming of age. I feel as though this book is a setup for the rest of the series. I am determined to finish this before the week is over!

Just Finished

I read four romances last week, and there were some highs and some lows! Lakelore was five stars, By the Book and Better Than the Movies were fun, and Love and Other Words did not work for me. Hear more of my thoughts in my latest reading vlog!

Starting Next

I am buddy reading A Song for Arbonne, which will be my first book from Guy Gavriel Kay. I have no idea what to expect!

I started Sundial a few weeks ago but had other obligations, so I put it down. I really enjoyed what I read, so I am excited to get back to it and see where the story goes.

  1. (I thought I commented a long comment but I think WordPress ate my comment, so sorry if my comment comes up twice!)

I’m sorry Love & Other Words didn’t work for you! I watched the spoiler part of your video and I’ll be honest, I don’t remember anyyyyyyy of that happening. I loved it, but I also read it back in 2018, and 2018 me was a different person so I’m curious to see what I would think if I reread it now.

CLo books are really hit or miss for me personally. I feel like I tend to like the books others dislike (Love & Other Words, Twice in a Blue Moon, Roomies) and hate the books others love (Josh & Hazel, My Favorite Half-Night Stand). I like that they have a variety of plot lines so there is something for everyone, but maybe their writing just isn’t for you!

I would recommend Something Wilder if you wanted to try one more book by them, it felt more action movie than romance but I liked it a lot, it was a treasure hunt through the mountains and felt different than their past books!

    1. I think a lot has happened since Love and Other Words was written, so I do think that if the authors wrote the book today it would be different. I probably wouldn’t have noticed it in 2018 as much either!

I didn’t love Josh and Hazel either!! I agree. It might be that I love their premises but the actual execution doesn’t work for me.

Something Wilder does sound fun. I love when romance does something different!

Thank you so much for your comment!

      1. That makes me want to pick it up sooner rather than later 🤣. Maybe in October. I have some other fat fantasy books I have on my TBR before that.

  2. I’m currently reading: “The Hidden Life of Colours” by an Italian-Japanese author.

I didn’t finished it, but dropped it because I didn’t like it: One Last Stop. It was too cringy for me.

After that one above, I’ll read another book by her about Tokyo and all the hidden gems of the city (:
