Currently Reading

In the Labyrinth of Drakes is the fourth book in the Memoirs of Lady Trent series! (I am co-hosting a read-a-long of this series) I am almost finished with part two, and I feel this will be my favourite in the series so far, which is fantastic since I was disappointed with the last book. I love seeing Lady Trent have more interactions with dragons and she has had a lot of character growth since the first book.

I am still listening to A Lady for a Duke. Even though it is taking me a while to get through, I love it! I just have not been in an audiobook mood recently, and this is a long one. There is something about Alexis Hall’s writing that just works for me!

Just Finished

Lessons in Chemistry is receiving a ton of hype on Bookstagram, and I think that it deserves it. I loved the main character and her passion for chemistry. It was interesting to see her story from two different timelines- one when she is working in a lab and falling in love, and the other a few years later when she is a single mother and is hosting a cooking show. I will say that I had mixed feelings about the dog having a perspective, but it was charming. Also, there is a sexual assault scene early on that I think is important to be aware of.

Medusa is a one-sitting read and the illustrations are gorgeous and haunting. It is definitely one of the most beautiful books on my shelves and I am happy to add it to my collection of Greek Myth retellings! However, I thought the actual story was predictable and what you might expect from a Medusa retelling. I think you read this book for the vibes more than anything!

Every Summer After was such a surprise for me and I do think it is the perfect summer romance! It is a messy romance, but I thought it felt so real and it was more emotional than I was expecting. I liked the two timelines, as we got to meet these characters when they were teenagers and we see them fall in love. We also see them many years later when they are no longer in contact. Something about that intrigue had me turning the pages! I posted a full review if you want to read more of my thoughts on Every Summer After.

I am happy that I finally read Bitter and that I loved it! Pet is one of my favourite YA novels, and Bitter is its prequel. I am someone who actually prefers prequels to sequels, and this one did not disappoint. I loved following Bitter as a character and seeing her complicated feelings about becoming involved in a revolution. While I wish it were longer and the ending was expanded upon, I think it is the perfect length for the intended audience.

Starting Next

I have a few options! If We Were Villains is really calling to me, and it has been a while since I read dark academia. It is also one of the books of my “books with best first lines” TBR.

I am part of a cozy mysteries book club and this month’s book is Daisies for Innocence. It just looks so cute!

I have an ALC of Ordinary Monsters, which comes out on June 7th, so I would love to get to it before then! This is a 25-hour audiobook, so it is definitely going to be a commitment.
