The Ultimate Recommendations Book Tag

I always love looking back on my answers for old book tags! The last time I did the Ultimate Recommendations Book Tag was in 2019, so I thought it was about time to do it again. Thank you to The Corner of Laura for tagging me recently!

A Book From One of Your Favourite Genres

I have so many favourite genres, but SciFi remains a favourite, just like it was in 2019. I recommended a historical SciFi back then, so this time I wanted to highlight a SciFi romance. I really have fallen in love with romance over the last few years, so this is the perfect combination for me. The Darkness Outside Us took me by complete surprise! If you enjoyed Project Hail Mary, I think you might just like The Darkness Outside Us as well. The predicament that characters find themselves in was reminiscent of Project Hail Mary, just make it YA and add a romance. I loved every second of it!

A Short Book

Becky Chambers is a master at writing novellas, as is evident in A Psalm for the Wild-Built. At only 160 pages, this sweet story certainly packs a punch. I fell in love with these characters instantly and I cannot wait for the sequel, which is also 160 pages.

A Book-to-Screen Adaptation

I read The Remains of the Day by Kazuo Ishiguro last year and I had no idea that there was a movie adaptation! A fellow blogger let me know, so I figured I would give it a try. Anthony Hopkins and Emma Thompson are two of my favourite actors, so I thought that the movie was excellent. If you like the book, I think you will be pleased with the movie.

A Book Out of Your Comfort Zone

One of the most rewarding things about blogging is that it has opened me up to so many new genres that few books are out of my comfort zone these days! It is because of blogging that I have embraced horror and Hold Back the Tide was one of the first ones that I read. I was so surprised by just how much I enjoyed this and I think it is a great starting point for anyone looking to get into horror.

A Book Series

Of course, I had to choose the Raybearer duology! It is by far the best series I have read in the last few years. If you love the found family trope, you need to read these books!

A Standalone

I am drawn to standalones, so there were so many books I could recommend, but I will never pass up on an opportunity to highlight The Inheritance of Orquidea Divina. This is magical realism at its best!

A Book You Don’t Talk About Enough

Sweethand is such an adorable romance, but I just never find the right opportunity to talk about it!

Your “Staple” Book

Maybe You Should Talk to Someone is the book I recommend most often, especially to people in my real life. I truly believe that everyone can take something away from it!

Book(s) That Got You Into Reading

I read the first book in the Sisterhood series the year that it came out! It was recommended to me by a bookseller and I remember thinking the premise was odd but I would give it a try! I absolutely fell in love with that first book and I would impatiently wait for the next book in the series. I think they came out every two years! I did read once in a while before that, but this series was the one that ignited my passion for it.

  1. To say I’m obsessed with Lori Gottlieb & Maybe You Should Talk To Someone is an understatement lol I also believe everyone has something to take away from it! I plan on purchasing the workbook to go along w/ my second time reading it!

  2. Anthony Hopkins and Emma Thompson would be an absolute dream team. I haven’t read The Remains of the Day yet – have only just read Never Let Me Go – but I really want to read more of Ishiguro’s writing as I really loved his writing style. Maybe I’ll head to this one next (added bonus of watching that film afterwards!)

  3. i haven’t read any of these (except sisterhood of the traveling pants, ha). time to remedy that!!

  4. Wonderful list of recommendations Kristin! Haven’t read Raybearer yet because there’s already so many fantasy books i need to catch up on, but have heard the best things.
