Blogmas (Day Seventeen) | These Have Been on My TBR for Far Too Long | Physical Books I Am Going to Prioritize in 2022

I recently purchased a new bookshelf, which forced me to take inventory of the books that I own. During that process, I realized that there are so many books that I am dying to read but have not been prioritizing. I decided to put them all together in a TBR cart and they will be some of the physical books that I choose from throughout 2022. I hope that this post motivates me to read these books and let me know if you do something similar!

The Starless Sea, Firekeeper’s Daughter, and The Apollo Murders are three books I have spoken about a lot recently! All three are books that are at the top of my TBR, and The Starless Sea is one that I should get to in December because it won my Blitzen poll for the Reindeer Readathon. Firekeeper’s Daughter is the book I am maddest at myself for not reading this year, and I just love Chris Hadfield, so I know I will adore The Apollo Murders.

I have been meaning to read something by Ruta Sepetys for years, and I actually have a signed copy of The Fountains of Silence, which I purchase in February 2020, right before the pandemic.

I actually have an annotated copy of The Great Believers, which I received from Page Habit, a book box that just disappeared! It is set in Chicago in the 1980s and centers around the AIDS epidemic. I have heard so many great things!

I am so ashamed! If you have been here a while, you know that I say every single year that I am going to read American Gods. I have owned my copy for ten years now. It is starting to yellow and it is just so sad that I have neglected it all this time, especially since I know I will love it!

The Interestings was a cover buy for me, but I have heard great things about Meg Wolitzer and have been wanting to try her work.

I feel as though I have been waiting for Cloud Cuckoo Land for years since I loved All the Light We Cannot See! I am intrigued by the premise and I just can’t let the size of it intimidate me. 2022 is going to be the year I prioritize quality over quantity!

I did not read as much literary fiction in 2021 as I usually do, but I would really like to get to Detransition, Baby in 2022.

I read Jade City earlier this year and was surprised by how much I loved it! I meant to get to Jade War right away and, of course, I didn’t. I want to read both Jade War and Jade Legacy in 2022!

Do you ever have a book that you know is going to be a favourite and so you save it for some unknown reason!? That is me with The Girl With the Louding Voice!

I loved Bianca Marais’ debut, Hum If You Don’t Know the Words, and I have been told that If You Want to Make God Laugh is even better. I even found a signed copy! I really need to prioritize it!

The Tattooist of Auschwitz is one of the first ARCs I have ever received, so I was excited to get a finished copy of Three Sisters from Harpercollins Canada in the mail. It takes a lot for me to be in the mood for WWII fiction these days, but I will be picking up this one when I am!

The Book of Form and Emptiness is another finished copy I received from the publisher and the size of it intimidates me, but I have heard great things about Ruth Ozeki’s writing and the premise intrigues me.

I had to include another one of Ruta Sepetys’ books on this list! I have owned Salt to the Sea for years and years and have been recommended it so many times!

I have always had a fascination with Marilyn Monroe and have been meaning to read something by Joyce Carol Oates, so Blonde is a book I am still very much interested in. It is so long and the writing is small, but I can’t let that stop me.

Dark Rise is an ARC I received after an event with HCC Frenzy. It is definitely out of my comfort zone, which is fun in and of itself.

I received an ARC of The Christie Affair from St. Martin’s Press and I love the premise. It reimagines what happened to Agatha Christie during the 11 days that she went missing.

I read Uzma Jalaluddin’s debut, Ayesha At Last, earlier this year and thought it was a fun romance. I am excited about Hana Khan Carries On because it is being compared to You’ve Got Mail!

I cannot believe I have never read anything by Octavia E. Bulter and I would love to change that in 2022. Parable of the Sower seemed to have a resurgence this year and I am definitely curious about it!

Heather O’Neill wrote one of my favourite books, The Lonely Hearts Hotel, and I started her debut, Lullabies for Little Criminals, during the lockdown and it was just too sad for me at that time. I was loving it though, so want to return to it in 2022.

I read the first chapter of The Golem and the Jinni for a try and chapter tag, and I have been thinking about it ever since. I think it is going to make for a perfect winter read!

I included The Library at Mount Char in my five-star predictions at the beginning of the year and I still have yet to read it! I want to do an update to that post, but, of course, I have to read the books first.

Can you believe I have never read Beloved? Neither can I!

Girl, Woman, Other is another one of those books that I know I am going to love and have been saving it. Ridiculous!

For some reason I have a feeling Pachinko could become a new all-time favourite book and I am just not ready!

My Heart is a Chainsaw is a book I have been saying I want to read since it came out. I loved the first chapter and adore Stephen Graham Jones, so I have no excuse!

I love a good family saga, so I know I will love A Place For Us. It got a lot of buzz when it first came out!

I think I will be participating in a readalong on BookTube for A Natural History of Dragons, which thrills me. It is one of the books that has been on my TBR shelf the longest and I have always been curious about it!

I was in the middle of The Night Watchman when my cat passed away, so I haven’t picked it back up, but I was enjoying it and would love to finish it and read more from Louise Erdrich in 2022!
