Witchy Book Recommendations

I recently recommended some ghostly books and thought it would be fun to put together a list of some of my favourite witchy novels, especially since I have read some amazing ones this year!

The Lighthouse Witches

The Lighthouse Witches is a recent release and one of my new favourite novels. I think it will end up being one of my top ten books of the year! It has so many of my buzzwords and is the perfect blend of memorable characters, an atmospheric setting, and an intriguing mystery. I need to explore C.J. Cooke’s entire backlist!

Practical Magic Series

The Practical Magic series is my favourite witchy series and I am so sad that it is has come to an end! The last book, The Book of Magic, came out in October, and it was the perfect conclusion to an incredible series. I adore all of these characters and their relationships with one another. The first book, Magic Lessons, is historical fiction and shows the origins of the curse on the Owens family. The last book, The Book of Magic, is about the end of that curse many generations later.

The Witches of New York

If you are looking for a quintessential witch story, I highly recommend The Witches of New York. It is chock-full of amazing characters and has the perfect setting for a witchy novel. I also really liked the Christmas novella, Half-Spent Was the Night, which follows the characters from The Witches of New York.

Three Sisters Island

I used to love all of Nora Robert’s paranormal series, but I remember the Three Sisters Island trilogy being one of my favourites. I need to return to Nora Roberts’s books because she writes the perfect blend of romance and paranormal. I loved that this series was set on an island and each book follows a different character. The first one, Dance Upon the Air, largely takes place in a bookstore cafe!

A Great and Terrible Beauty

I have only read the first book in the Gemma Doyle series, but I remember really loving it. I need to reread A Great and Terrible Beauty so I can continue on with the series! I love the trope where a young girl discovers she’s a witch and starts to embrace her powers, and that definitely happens in this book. It is also set at a boarding school. so dark academia vibes!

The Inheritance of Orquidea Divina

I adore magical realism, and The Inheritance of Orquidea Divina had it in spades! It was a wonderful mix of magic and weirdness, but it is ultimately a family saga. I highly recommend the audiobook!

Serpent & Dove

Serpent & Dove was really fun for what it is was! It is a romance between a witch and a witch hunter who are forced into a fake marriage. I loved the banter and the hate-to-love elements of the first book, but I cannot wait I would recommend the other books in the trilogy.

Mooncakes

If you are a fan of graphic novels, I think Mooncakes is a sweet one. It is the perfect book to read on Halloween if you want something cute versus something scary! It is a friends-to-lovers romance between a young witch and a werewolf!

Circe

Of course, I had to include Circe on this list! It is a Greek Mythology retelling, so it is not your typical witchy book. but I love Circe and her vengeful attitude.

Wild Beauty

Wild Beauty is the book that made me fall in love with magical realism. The magic in this one is so beautiful, but it was the sisterhood that stands out to me. I need to read more from Anna-Marie McLemore!
