Books I Wish I Could Read Again for the First Time

I know this a few days late, but Tuesday ended up being a migraine day for me!

There are so many amazing books that I wish I could read again for the first time, but the ones that instantly came to mind are those where something happens that surprised me or there was a compelling reveal. If I were to reread this books, I would go in knowing what was coming and I worry that I would lose some of what made the books to memorable for me. That said, with books like this it could also be interesting to reread them in order to look for any foreshadowing.

It seems as though everyone is reading Ace of Spades right now, and for good reason. It is one of the most shocking and infuriating thrillers that I have ever read. I cannot remember the last time a book made me so angry, which was the author’s intention. I am not sure that I would feel as emotional upon a reread, so it saddens me that I can never read it again for the first time, especially since it is so appalling and not something I will soon forget.

The more distance I have from Plain Bad Heroines, the more I love it. There is so much going on in this book, that it is really one I should reread. I just wish I could experience reading it for the first time again because it is quite the ride.

If you have read The Fifth Season, you know why it is on this list. However, I would like to reread it before I continue on with the series because I am sure there is a lot that I missed.

Bitter Orange is one of my favourite books and I love how atmospheric it is. There is a moment that made my jaw drop and was just so good! It would be amazing to experience it for the first time.

If you are going to read Project Hail Mary, please don’t read too much about it. I went into it blind because I trusted Andy Weir, and I am so glad that I did.

The timeline in Monday’s Not Coming is confusing and I think it is important that you know that going into it. You just have to trust Tiffany D. Jackson. This book was incredible and so emotional. I don’t think it is one I would reread any time soon because of how sad it is, but I do wish I could read it for the first time again.

The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet is just so charming and I loved meeting all of these characters for the first time. I know I would love them just as much upon a reread, but I will never be able to be introduced to them for the first time again!

I feel similarly about The Nickel Boys as I do about Monday’s Not Coming. You need to trust Colson Whitehead, but I don’t think I have the emotional capacity to reread this book. It is brilliant though!

I know it may be strange to include a nonfiction book on this list, but I decided to read Bad Blood on a whim and knew nothing about Elizabeth Holmes or Theranos. Wow- what a wild ride that was!

I Let You Go is one of my favourite thrillers and I really should talk about it more. It is another one that is best going into knowing as little as possible. I could have included many more thrillers on this list because they are often full of twists and turns, but Clare Mackintosh took it to another level. So good!
