What do you think you’ll read next?

Currently Reading

I am about 50% of the way through the audiobook for A Slow Fire Burning and I am invested! It feels like an interesting mix of both of Paula Hawkin’s previous books. It has the thrills of The Girl on the Train but the character development of Into the Water. I like that we are getting the backgrounds of all of these women and I have no idea who did what or where this is leading, but I cannot wait to find out!

I just started The Strange Case of the Alchemist’s Daughter and I am really loving Theodora Goss’ writing style. There is something captivating about it! I probably shouldn’t be starting a new series but this one has really been calling out to me!

Just Finished

Last week was the week of YA fantasy for me! I started a new series with Fireborne, and I will really loved it. I am deeply invested in these characters and this world. I cannot wait to read the sequel and I hope that we get more dragons!

I also finished a YA series, which feels like such an accomplishment for me! While Gods & Monsters was better than the second book, Blood & Honey, I thought it was just okay in the end. I felt like it was very similar to the first book and I truly believe that this series would have worked better as a standalone or as a duology. Also, it was way too long. There was so much that could have been cut out!

Ah I hate to say this but I had to DNF Accidentally Engaged, at least for now. I got to 90 pages before deciding to put it down. Something about the writing style and the dialogue wasn’t working for me. I also read some reviews from own voice reviewers who had issues with the Muslim rep, which I had picked up on. I also wasn’t feeling the chemistry. It may get better, so if you have read Accidentally Engaged, please let me know what you thought! I love that it is set in Toronto and that there is so much baking, but it wasn’t enough to keep me interested, sadly.

Starting Next

I cannot tell you how excited I am to read All’s Well! I managed to grab the final copy at an independent bookstore that it pretty close to me. All I know about it is that it is a horror following a teacher whose students are putting on a Shakespeare play, hence the title. There also seem to be some sort of magical realism element? I am not sure- it sounds wild and completely unique. I cannot wait!
