Books I Brought With Me on Vacation

My parents have a place is a small beach town here in Ontario, so I tend to spend a couple of months there every year. The hardest part of packing for me is deciding which books to bring, especially as a mood reader! I feel like I need to bring a range of books for whatever mood I might be in. I thought it would be fun to share the books I settled on with you all today. I have been here for almost two weeks now, so I have read a few of them already and so far they have all been amazing books.

The Books I Have Read

The Jasmine Throne is not the kind of fantasy that I am usually drawn to, but something about it was calling to me! I am so glad that I trusted my gut on this one because I absolutely loved it.

Ace of Spades deserves all of the hype that it has been getting. I thought it was fast-paced and brilliantly handled. I cannot believe that it is the author’s debut and she started it during her freshman year of college!

Where the Rhythm Takes You is a perfect summer read set in Tobago. It is a YA contemporary about having a second chance with your first love. I had so much fun with it!

It Happened One Summer is a new favourite romance! The main character is inspired by Alexis from Schitt’s Creek, so if you love Alexis than this is the book for you.

The last thing I need is to start new series, but that did not stop me from bringing the first two books in two new series with my while I am away! I have been saving An Inside Deadly Scoop and A Game of Cones, the first two books in the An Ice Cream Parlor Mystery series, for the summertime. How perfect do these books look for the summer? I cannot wait to read them by the pool!

Crown of Feathers and Heart of Flames are part of the Crown of Feathers series and are not books I would ever pick up on my own but have been recommended to me a few times! I am so intrigued by the covers and want to explore different types of fantasy. The last book just came out as well!

The Golem and the Jinni and Blonde are two books that I have been meaning to read for awhile now but just never prioritize. I thought that buy bringing them with me when I have fewer options, there would be a greater chance that I will read them! I hope this theory proves true, because I really do think I will love them both.

I am actually currently reading The Remains of the Day and I am really enjoying it. That is no surprise considering how much I adore Kazuo Ishiguro. I want to watch the movie as soon as I am done! I have never seen it and it has three of my favourite actors- Anthony Hopkins, Emma Thompson, and Hugh Grant.

Fireborne is another fantasy that is so out of my comfort zone. I have not read a lot of books about dragons! I am intrigued by this one though, and I love that it is a duology.

The Black Kids is another book I have been saving for the summer! I guess because of the sunglasses? I have heard some great things about it!

The publisher was kind enough to send me a hardcover copy of The Therapist, and it will be my first book my B.A. Paris. Thrillers about mental health always make me nervous because they can be very hit or miss, but I am curious!

I have a gorgeous signed copy of Wings of Ebony and I have been loving YA fantasy lately. I have not heard much about this one, so I am curious to see what I think.

For the Wolf has been getting some mixed reviews, but I am still excited for it! I think it is going to be extremely atmosphere and the perfect book to kickstart my fall reading.

The Paper Palace has been everywhere lately, and while Reese’s book club picks don’t always work for me, I am drawn to this one for some reason. It seems to have the cheating trope, which I don’t love, but I am curious to see how the author handles it and where the story goes.

The Strange Case of the Alchemist’s Daughter is a BookTube darling and I love that we are following the daughters of famous literary figures!

I have owned Accidentally Engaged for months now and knew that I would want to read it on the beach. It sounds like such a sweet romance and has so many of my favourite tropes!

I actually wen to an independent bookstore that is close by and bought three books while I was there! The Night Watchman won The Pulitzer Prize this year and I have been wanting to read something by Louise Erdrich for years.

I am ashamed to admit that I have never read anything by Octavia E. Butler, especially since I have come to really love Sci-Fi. I have been wanting to read some more classic Sci-Fi, so I was excited to find Parable of the Sower at this little bookstore.

The Bookshop of Second Chances was a complete cover buy for me! I am such a sucker for books and cats on a cover.

Have you read any of these? Do you put a lot of thought into the books you bring with you on vacation?

  1. This is such a good summer reading selection! I don’t have any holiday plans (too much work and uni 😭) but I made myself a 15 books strong summer TBR regardless. If I can’t go to the beach, I just have to bring the beach reads to my house 😂

  2. I haven’t heard of The Jasmine Throne before but it’s exactly what I’ve been hunting for for *ages* – thank you for the recco, and happy reading!
