WWW Wednesday (July 28th, 2021)

WWW Wednesday is hosted by Sam @ Taking on a World of Words! All you have to do is answers the following three questions:

What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

Currently Reading

I have just started the audiobook for A Psalm for the Wild-Built and I am sure that I am going to fly it! I did not realize that, at 160 pages, it is technically a novella. I forgot just how much I connect with Becky Chambers writing and it is so comforting to be reading something by her again.

I am only a few pages into The Remains of the Day, as in only the prologue, but I can already tell you I am going to love it. I think that Stevens, our main character, has the potential to become a new favourite of mine. I have such high hopes for this one, especially since Ishiguro wrote two of my favourite books.

Just Finished

As you can see, I have really been in the reading mood this week and it feels great! Ace of Spades had me hooked, and though it is labelled as a thriller, it felt like a contemporary with a lot to say. There is definitely a mystery at the center of the story, but it was the characters responses that were most interesting to me. I found myself so angry and frustrated by the situation and there were points where I wanted to through the book across the room, which means I was passionate about it and I think the author set out what she intended to do. It is incredible that this is her debut and she started writing it when she was a freshman in college.

Where the Rhythm Takes You was an adorable YA contemporary about having a second chance with your first love. It also had the trope where one of the characters is famous and the other is not. I love that it was set in Tobago and that the main character’s father owns a resort. It felt so summery and I flew through it!

It Happened One Summer was so cute and steamy! The main character, Piper, is based on Alexis from Schitt’s Creek and you could tell. Tessa Bailey captured everything that makes the character of Alexis so endearing. It read as though Alexis and Luke from Gilmore Girls were dating, and I was here for it. This book will easily go on my favourite romances shelf. A perfect summer read and I cannot wait for the next book in the series, which follows Piper’s sister.

Starting Next

I just started two books, so I am not 100% sure what I am going to read next, but Fireborne is calling to me for some reason! I really have no idea what this is about, but I find myself in the mood for a fantasy about dragons. I have heard great things about this one and it is a duology, which is nice!

  1. I have not read any of these, but have heard great things about The Ace of Spades and It Happened One Summer. Happy reading!

  2. All of these sound so good and I haven’t read any of them yet. =( I need to get to it. Do you have a favorite Kazuo Ishiguro book if you’ve read any of his others? I’ve been wanting to read them but I can’t decide where I want to start.

  3. “A psalm for the wild” title intrigued me so I have added to my TBR. I just hope my interest is piqued right since am not scientifically driven.
