This week’s TTT topic was surprisingly difficult! It turns out that I have not read a lot of books with titles that are questions and the ones I have read are mostly nonfiction and children’s books. I did manage to find ten books, most of which I have read with a couple that are on my TBR. I am curious to see the books that everyone talks about this week!
How Y’all Doing is the only book I have read so far this year that has a title that is a question, and I highly recommend it! If you fell in love with Leslie Jordan on Instagram during the lockdown or if you have been a fan since his Will & Grace days, you’re going to love his memoir, especially on audio. There is something so delightful about him and I had a blast listening to him tell me his stories. I took a lot more way from this than I was expecting!
What If? is such a fun and unique book. The author, Randall Munroe, takes completely random hypothetical questions and answers them using science. This was originally a web comic, so there are great illustrations and it is surprisingly funny. I learned a lot and had a great time doing it!
I have a feeling Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret will be on many lists this week. It is such a classic and I have distinct memories of reading it when I was a teenager, as I know many of us do!
I have not read Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (such a great title btw!), but I do really like Mindy Kaling. The Office (US) is my favourite show, and the episodes that she wrote are the ones that I find myself rewatching the most. Obviously she is a talented and hilarious writer, so I expect her memoirs would be the same way. I know that she has another book called Why Not Me?, which is also a question.
It has been years since I read Sophie Kinsella, but I used to love everything that she wrote. She also has a few books that have questions for titles, but Can You Keep a Secret? is my favourite!
I have always wanted to read Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, especially since it is the book that inspired Blade Runner. I also adore Sci-Fi and have wanted to try some of the classics. I have to admit that the cover of this one has stopped me from picking it up, which is just ridiculous! Has anyone tried it on audio? Is it any good?
While the cover for Where’d You Go, Bernadette doesn’t have a question mark, it is quite clearly a question! I have to admit that I didn’t love this book but it was extremely popular when it came out. I have yet to watch the movie, but I am curious about it!
What Happened to You? is a 2021 release that I had not heard about until I was researching for this post. I find it strange that this book isn’t getting much buzz, especially since it is co-authored by Oprah. I am always curious about psychology books and it seems like it tackles some important questions.
I have heard so many amazing things about all of Jeanette Winterson’s books, but I am most intrigued by her memoir Why Be Happy When You Could Be Normal? What a title!
Of course I had to include a children’s book on this list! I went for the absolute classic Are You My Mother? This is a favourite of my own mom, but I remember it making me so sad when I was a kid.

WHAT IF? is a great title and a great question in general. I’ve heard multiple authors say that they come up with ideas for books by asking this exact question. Makes sense!

I think I can probably still recite pages of Are You My Mother by heart — I’ve read it aloud so many times over the years with my kids! I thought everyone would have Are You There God? on their lists, but so far I’ve only seen it on yours and mine. 🙂 I forgot to include What If?!! I bought a copy for my husband a couple of years ago, and even though he didn’t end up reading it, I really like opening it at random and looking through it. Great list!
