Birthday Book Tag

Happy birthday to me! This is my second lockdown birthday, as I live in Ontario and we are still in our third lockdown, so I will be spending the day eating cake and reading- no complaints from me! Also, today is a HUGE release day. So many books come out today, and I love it! Check out my post about my most anticipated June releases.

BIRTHDAY CAKE – a book with a plot that seems cliché but you adore it anyway

Book Cover

Pride and Premeditation is a Pride and Prejudice retelling that reads like a cozy mystery. There are a lot of clichés of the genre and the author takes a lot of the famous quotes from the original text and puts a spin on them, and I loved every second of it. It was exactly the book I needed in the moment and I cannot wait for the rest of the series.

PARTY GUESTS – your most anticipated book release this year

I couldn’t choose just one! There are so many I am excited about, but The Book of Magic and Redemptor came to mind instantly. They are both parts of series that I adore and talk about all the time. The Rules of Magic and Raybearer are actually on my list of top ten books of all time, so of course I am anxiously anticipating the release of their sequels!

BIRTHDAY PRESENTS – a book that surprised you with how much you loved it

Book Cover

I knew I would probably enjoy Jade City but I had no idea how much it would affect me and how invested I would get. I really connected with Fonda Lee’s writing and the world that she created. The characters really shine in here and I need to read the sequel, Jade War, before the final book, Jade Legacy, comes out later this year.

THE HAPPY BIRTHDAY SONG – a book that certainly deserved all the hype it got

Book Cover

I mean… I couldn’t choose any other book for this question! The House in the Cerulean Sea has been the most hyped book since its release, which made me nervous, but I absolutely loved it. Believe everything that everyone says about this one!

HAPPY MUSIC – a book with some very beautiful and truly memorable quotes

Book Cover

What surprised me so much about Honey Girl was just how beautiful the writing was. I could have tabbed the entire things, as there were so many quotes that I adored!

I think lonely creatures ache for each other because who else can understand but someone who feels the same dark, black abyss?

The stars glimmer above her. They gleam under the gaze of people like Grace, searching for meaning in their formations. They are doing their best for all the people that stare up at the dark and do not know that they, too, shine brilliantly.

It’s okay to admit that something can be best just because it makes you happy, and not because you had to tear yourself apart to get there.

GETTING OLDER – a book that you read a long time ago, but you think that you would appreciate it more if you read it as a more mature reader

Book Cover

I actually loved The Chrysalids when I first read it as a teenager, but I think that there is a lot that went over my head and that I missed. It is a short book and one I have been meaning to reread for years.

SWEET BIRTHDAY MEMORIES – a book that kept you incredibly happy during a sad or demanding period of your life

Book Cover

I think that any happy, lighthearted book that I have read over the past year would work for this, and I know I am not alone in that. The Happy Ever After Playlist is one of the first books I read during our first lockdown and I distinctly remember how it shifted my mood. It was so adorable and respectful and everything that I needed!

Thanks for reading and for all the birthday wishes in advance! I hope you have an amazing day!
