Celebrating Four Years of Blogging with a Q&A

Wow. This day sort of snuck up on me! I cannot believe I have been blogging for four years. The time has flown by. One of the best decisions I ever made!

I made a post awhile ago asking for any questions you have for me, so I thought I would answer them today!

If you could read only one book genre for the rest of your life, which would it be?

This is such a hard question, especially since blogging has encouraged me to read from a wide variety of genres.

I feel like saying literary fiction is a bit of a cop-out because that could be many things but that would be my answer!

If you had to give up one platform, what would it be? FB, IG, Twitter, WordPress or Book Tube.

Either Facebook or Twitter. I don’t use either much other than to post my videos and blog posts. I do appreciate what both platforms have to offer though!

What’s the best book or genre you were introduced to through blogging?

It has to be Sci-Fi! I was encouraged to try science fiction early on and now it is one of my top three genres. I have been in such a SciFi mood lately and a lot of my favourite books fall into that genre.

I also have to shoutout horror- I never thought I would be a horror lover but blogging has helped me find the kind of horror that works for me.

My question would be, what made you keep going? A lot of people give up their blogs after a few months and I was wondering what made you keep writing!

This is such a great question. I think it’s because I continue to love it. There are times when I am more inspired than others, but I have found that having an outlet like this is really good for me. I could write about books and all things reading for forever!

I will say that it is a lot more work than I ever expected it to be, so I can understand why someone would stop posting. I always say I will only continue to do this as long as I’m enjoying it!

Was there anyone who either probed you to start a blog, or helped you keep going for 4 freaking years?

I had thought about starting a blog for year before I actually did it. It was a book I read that I had an unpopular opinion on that made me finally take the plunge. I just wanted a space to talk about it!

The entire community keeps me here, as cheesy as that sounds. I love reading blogs just as much as I love writing for mine!

What would you recommend to people who want to be more constant with their postings?

It can be so hard and everyone’s situation is different! I think what has helped me are weekly memes like Top Ten Tuesday or WWW Wednesday. I don’t participate every single week, but it is nice to have the option and not have to think too much about what to write about.

I also think that setting a schedule helps! I used to be better at this, but for years I would post a review every Sunday, a book tag every Tuesday, and some kind of book recommendation list on Mondays.

If you could go back in time what advice would you give yourself as a new blogger?

I think I would tell myself to not put too much pressure on my reading. There is so much work that goes on behind the scenes in order to keep writing content for a book blog. If I am not reading, I feel like I have nothing to talk about. When I first starting blogging I felt like I needed to read what was popular and I think that really affected my relationship with reading. I eventually came around and realized I just needed to read whatever appealed to me personally and I think that comes across in my content as well!

Do you have any tips for blogging consistently and not getting burnt out?

Burnout is so real! The first thing I would say is don’t be afraid to take breaks. If you are feeling burnt out, step away from your blog for as long as you need. This is supposed to be fun, despite how much work it is!

I also think it helps to explore your creativity in new ways. As much as I love weekly memes and do recommend participating, I think that they could lead to ruts in your creativity. I like to try new things every once in awhile and that keeps me inspired!

How do you select which book to read next?

A fun question to end with! I am such a mood reader, so I often stare at my TBR cart to see what calls out to me. I also listen to audiobooks and can spend way too much time scrolling through Scribd deciding what I am in the mood for.

I have also realized that the Try a Chapter tag really works for me. I will choose a couple books that I am interested in and will read the first chapter and continuing on with the one that intrigues me most!

That’s it! Thank you so much to Becky, Mischenko, Caro, Rabeeah, Amy, Millay, Clemence, Louise, Amani, and Laci for your questions, and thank you all for all of your support over these last few years. It means the world to me!

  1. Congrats, Kristin! Excellent advice too. Sci-fi is one I need to read more of, and I’ve definitely been influenced by the blogging community. Thanks for your Q&A! ❤️

  2. congrats on making it 4 years in! i took a 2 year break because blogging became like a chore, i’m impressed you didn’t fall into it (i’ve seen it happen to so many people), you’re obviously doing something right. i love your blog, keep it up!

  3. Congratulations on 4 years!! 🎉 You have some great advice here — particularly on how to keep going. I didn’t realise how time-consuming blogging would be so it’s definitely a balance.

But clearly there are many positives!
