#DoTheThingAthon is a readathon hosted by Ashley @ Frolic Through Fiction on YouTube. I love the concept of this readathon and that the focus is to work on your reading goal- whatever they may be! The readathon starts on May 24th and ends on May 30th. There are live reading sprints every day, so I will link you to the Twitter page for more information.
I am a mood reader, so I put together a list of books to choose from that would all work towards one of the reading goals I have for 2021! I broke them down into different categories and will see which of them is calling to me in the moment!
ARCs
These are the two ARCs that I would love to read ASAP! I am writing this blogpost on May 20th and plan to pick up Last Chance Books at some point today, so I might even finish it before the readathon, but I still wanted to mention it! It is inspired by You’ve Got Mail and is a hate to love romance.
Where the Rhythm Takes You is inspired by Persuasion by Jane Austen and is a first love/second chance romances. I am so excited about it and should make for a pretty quick read!
Books from My “Books I Want to Read in 2021” Post
I wrote a post in January about some of the books I would love to read in 2021 and these are four that are currently standing out to me. None of them are ideal books for readathons, but I would be thrilled if I managed to read one of them!
Blonde is being adapted into a movie this year and I have always wanted to read something by Joyce Carol Oates, but it is over 800 pages so I think if I chose it it might end up being the only book I read during the readathon!
The Golem and the Jinni has been on my radar for ages and I really want to pick it up now that I am really getting into fantasy. The sequel is coming out this year, so now is the perfect time to read it!
I actually have both the physical copy and the audiobook of The Starless Sea, and I have had them since before the book was released, so it is shameful that I have yet to read it. I think it is because I didn’t love The Night Circus and this one gets mixed reviews. I did love her writing though, so who knows- this could become a favourite!
How many TBRs have I put Know My Name on? I just have to read it already!
Books from My Latest “Five Star Predictions” Post
I am slowly making my way through my five star predictions and I have actually started both The Salt Path and The Library at Mount Char. I was really enjoying both but was distracted by other books, so the readathon would be a good excuse to give them both my full attention!
The Next Books in a Series
I have been talking about series a lot lately, so I thought focusing on reading the next books in series I am in the middle of could be a good idea! These are the three series I have my eye on.
A Fatal Grace is the second book in the Inspector Gamache series, the first book being Still Life. I love the cozy vibes of this series and the small town feel. I have the first five books, so I have no excuses!
The Obelisk Gate is definitely not the ideal readathon book, but I really want to finish The Broken Earth trilogy this year, especially since The Fifth Season was my favourite book of 2020.
I read Red Rising years ago and have been wanting to read Golden Son ever since. If I managed to read it during the readathon that would be a huge goal off of my list. I feel like the series is taunting me at this point!
I would love to know your thoughts on any of these books!
