First Lines From the Last Ten Books I Read

Today’s TTT topic is about sharing the last ten books you read, but since I just posted my April wrap up, I thought that it would be repetitive. I figured I would twist this a little and share the first lines from the last ten books I read- I am always curious about the first line of a book!

Save Me the Plums

Book Cover

I was eight years old when I first found the magazine, sitting on the dusty wooden floor of a used-book store.

Life’s Too Short

Life's Too Short (The Friend Zone Book 3) by [Abby Jimenez]

Wailing. Banshee, demon-baby wailing from the apartment next to mine for the millionth hour straight.

Second First Impressions

One of the “benefits” of working in the front office of Providence Retirement Villa is I receive feedback on every aspect of my lifestyle and appearance, whether I want it or not.

Klara and the Sun

When we were new, Rosa and I were mid-store, on the magazines table side, and I could see through more than half of the window.

Pride and Premeditation

Pride and Premeditation (Jane Austen Murder Mysteries Book 1) by [Tirzah Price]

It is a truth universally acknowledged that a brilliant idea, conceived and executed by a clever young woman, must be claimed by a man.

The Henna Artist

Independence changed everything. Independence changed nothing.

Fat Chance, Charlie Vega

I imagine being kissed about a hundred times a day.

Luster

The first time we have sex, we are both fully clothed, at our desks during working hours , bathed in blue computer light.

The Final Revival of Opal & Nev

My sister, Pearl, and I grew up in Detroit.

Jade City

Jade City (The Green Bone Saga Book 1) by [Fonda Lee]

The two would-be jade thieves sweated in the kitchen of the Twice Lucky restaurant.

  1. This is a lovely twist on the theme. First lines both tell us a lot and very little, I think!

I haven’t heard of Pride and Premediation previously but that first line is a great first impression!

  2. I like the line from the Henna Artist best! I really enjoyed Save Me The Plums and that line was part of why. It took me back to looking through my Mom’s magazines. Magazines were the world when I was a kid in the 60s.

  3. So many of these are on my TBR! I’m really wanting to read Jade City and Second First Impressions soon, and Klara and the Sun sounds amazing. I’m also super curious about Opal & Nev- I’ve heard the audiobook for it is fantastic so I want to check it out!

  4. I like your twist on this week’s theme. I didn’t take part this week as I felt that I was forever saying what I’ve been reading on my WWW Wednesday posts. If you don’t mind, I may well steal your idea and write my post tonight. Have a great week of reading!
