Removing Books From My TBR (Part 3)

This week’s TTT is a spring cleaning freebie, so I thought it was the perfect opportunity to continue on with my series where I remove books from my Goodreads TBR. I will leave links to part one and two in case you are curious.

I started this journey with over 1000 books on my Goodreads TBR, so I will be curious to see how low I can get that number. The thing is, I am constantly adding new titles to that list and it is now at 1,188, soooooo I am not doing very well! At least it will just be nice to know that every book on that shelf is one I actually want to read.

I loved the idea of Hot Dog Girl and obviously the cover is adorable, but it doesn’t have great reviews and there are so many other YA contemporary novels that I am interested in that I don’t see myself making time for this one.

I think many of us were excited when Imaginary Friend came out, but I haven’t read many great reviews for it! I am tempted to try it as I am getting more into horror, but it is over 700 pages and I have so much horror on my TBR at this point.

I am not sure why Our Souls at Night was ever on my TBR. Maybe because of the movie? Though I have never watched it…

I have tried to read Gingerbread a few times and I can never get into it! However, I am still curious about some of Helen Oyeyemi’s other work.7

Romanov is another book I have tried to read but didn’t connect with, which is a shame because I love the premise!

I have watched the adaptation of Bird Box a few times and it is rare for me to read the book after watching the movie!

I enjoyed the first book in the Montague Siblings series, but there has been a few controversies surrounding the author and I have no pull to continue on with the series, so The Lady’s Guide to Petticoats and Piracy was an easy one for me to remove.

I absolutely love Hocus Pocus and have to watch it every October, so I was excited by the idea of a sequel. I was sad that it wasn’t well received and I don’t want to it change my feelings about the movie!

This is a weird one because the sequel to The Friend Zone, The Happily Ever After Playlist, is one of my favourite romances. For some reason I read the second book first and was already introduced to the characters in the first one so I have an idea of what happens. Looking forward to the third book though!

I went back and forth on whether or not to remove Golden Child because the synopsis sounds interesting, but the reviews haven’t been great. If you have read this one let me know what you thought!

  1. I really want to read Romanov but I’ve heard mixed things about it (more negative than positive) so I’ve been hesitant.

  2. Gingerbread has been on my TBR list too (since ages!) — mainly because I like folktale retellings and the book has got a great cover. But something keeps me away too, not sure why that is. On the other hand, if you do want to try out Oyeyemi’s work, Mr. Fox is a great read. Very mind-bending.

  3. I actually read The Lady’s Guide to Petticoats and Piracy and…. you aren’t missing out by not reading it honestly. I was disappointed in it.

  4. Great post! I took Bird Box off my TBR as well after having seen the movie I just didn’t have the desire to read it anymore. I also understand how you feel I’ve been getting rid of books if they have poor reviews. Some of them have good a good synopsis but the reviews were bad enough for me to not want to give em a shot anymore. I really enjoyed this post though 🙂

  5. Yes, it sounds like the list should be going down instead of up… but you’re in the right path! I don’t think I’d read any of these either.
