All the Books on My “Favourites” Shelf (Part Two)

This is a post I have been wanting to write for ages, but I knew it would be time consuming! I filmed a YouTube video sharing all of the books on my shelves, so I figured now was the time. I am someone who only keeps books that they love.

I want my shelves to be a reflection of my reading taste and to say something about me. I have more books scattered throughout my house, and I also have a classic shelf, but these are the ones that I adore and would recommend. Of course these aren’t all of my favourites, as I listened to quite a few books on audio.

Today I will be sharing the books on my second shelf! This is where I have most of my YA favourites, at least the ones I own of course, and then it is really a mix of some historical fiction and contemporary faves.

It is no secret that Raybearer is one of my favourite books. I feel like I talked about it nonstop in 2020. The cover for the sequel, Redemptor, was just revealed and I cannot begin to tell you how excited I am for it!

Legendborn was my first five star read of the year. I never thought that I could love an Arthurian retelling quite this much! I am constantly checking Goodreads for news about the sequel.

The Beauty That Remains is a hard-hitting YA contemporary that I feel like slide a little under the radar. It is an amazing book about grief and the power of music.

The Names They Gave Us is the perfect book to read during the summer months. It takes place at a summer camp and has a great cast of characters.

I absolutely fell in love with Far From the Tree and it is one of my favourite books about siblings and adoption.

Starfish took me by complete surprised and it is a beautiful book about grief and having art as an outlet.

Cemetery Boys is probably one I don’t have to tell you about- it was everywhere last year! I am so excited for Aiden Thomas’ next release, Lost in the Never Woods, which comes out this month!

Concrete Rose and The Hate U Give are both fantastic and must reads, but I am sure you already know that!

Now we have my Tiffany D. Jackson’s- Grown, Let Me Hear a Rhyme, and Allegedly. Jackson has quickly become one of my favourite authors!

Wild Beauty was the first ARC I ever received, so I cherish it for that reason but I also just adored the story!

Then the last YA book on this shelf is The Female of the Species. This is a revenge story that was very difficult to read due to the subject matter, but it is incredible.

I read both of Brit Bennett’s novels in 2020, but The Mothers was my favourite. I really thought that the collective voice in this made it unique!

I then have two books from Colson Whitehead, The Underground Railroad and The Nickel Boys. I really need to read more of his backlist!

The Practical Magic series is my favourite series about witches. Oddly, I don’t actually own Practical Magic, but I do have the two prequels- Magic Lessons and The Rules of Magic!

It seems that you either love or hate Sally Rooney’s books and I am one of those people who loves them, so I have both Conversations With Friends and Normal People on my favourites shelves.

I think that Claire Fuller’s books are entirely underrated, and Bitter Orange is up there as one of my favourite books of all time. I also thought Swimming Lessons was amazing.

Lanny is one of the weirdest yet most memorable books I have ever read.

Tin Man is so beautifully heartbreaking, and I cannot wait for Sarah Winman’s new books that comes out at some point this year.

Last but not least on this shelf, I have The Subtweet, which is a compelling story about fame and social media.

  1. Oo so many amazing books on this list! I can’t wait to read more of Tiffany D. Jackson’s books after reading Monday’s Not Coming, so I’m happy to see them on here! I also really adore Starfish, and it’s on my favorites shelf as well 🙂

  2. I’ve only read Far From the Tree, The Hate You Give, Cemetery Boys, and The Female of the Species, and they are all favorites of mine. There are so many of these that are high on my tbr like Starfish and Allegedly.
