I have two TBR carts and they are constantly taunting me, but I thought it would be fun to share the books I have on them with you! I will be talking about one of the carts in this post and the second one in a future post because I don’t want this to be too long!
I have two books by Joyce Carol Oates, who is an author I have never read from before. I found We Were the Mulvaneys in a little free library, and Blonde is the book by her I have been recommended the most. I am so curious to see what she does with Marilyn Monroe’s story, and it is also being adapted into a movie.
The Brideship Wife by Leslie Howard, which is an ARC from Simon and Schuster Canada. All I know about it is that it set during Victorian England and that the main character ends up in British Columbia. I am intrigued!
Then I have the most recent addition to my collection, and that is Yellow Wife by Sadeqa Johnson. This is a new release and is under 300 pages. I have been wanting to get back into historical fiction and I think that this is the perfect book to help me fall in love with the genre again.
The Henna Artist is another historical fiction that I think I will love. So much of the historical fiction I read is set in the US or the UK, so the fact that this book takes place in 1950s India really appeals to me.
Next up is another ARC from Simon and Schuster and that is Rhapsody by Mitchell James Kaplan. This is another historical fiction set in Jazz Age New York and it comes out in March. I have read the first couple chapters and I am definitely intrigued!
The next book is one I have had for years and I have have a signed copy, and that is The Golden Son by Shilpi Somaya Gowda. I remember loving the author’s debut, The Secret Daughter, so I have no excuses as to why I haven’t read this yet!
Harry’s Trees by Jon Cohen is one that I haven’t heard much about but the reviews that I have read have been glowing. It sounds like the kind of whimsical book that I love!
I cannot wait to read Girl, Woman, Other. I am surprised that I haven’t read it already! Bernadine Evaristo is the chair judge of The Women’s Prize this year and I would love to read some of her work before the longlist is announced.
Ayesha at Last by Uzma Jalaluddin is a Pride and Prejudice retelling set in Toronto. That is all I need to know to want to read it!
The Cat and the City by Nick Bradley was a complete cover buy! I have a calico cat, and there is one of the cover so I felt drawn to it. I am still intrigued by it though!
I talk about how ashamed I am that I haven’t read Salt to the Sea all the time. That is why I have moved it to the top of my TBR cart so that I might be more compelled to pick it up!
I have some of the nonfiction on my TBR on this shelf, starting with A Most Beautiful Thing by Arshay Cooper. I have been personally recommended this book and it is about the first all black rowing team in America. I am excited about it!
Know My Name by Chanel Miller has been on my shelves since 2019, and I want to read it soon.
I have been into food memoirs lately, and Save me the Plums comes highly recommended!
Long Live for the Tribe of Fatherless Girls by T Kira Madden is a memoir that I have a feeling I am going to really love.
Disability Visibility is a collection edited by Alice Wong and it focuses on what it is like to live with a disability. I will definitely being reading this in February!
I then have three books in the Inspector Gamache series by Louise Penny, which I really need to continue on with this year!
Letters to the Lost by Brigid Kemmerer has been on my shelves for years! I love hard-hitting contemporary, so I really need to get to it.
Bone Gap by Laura Ruby is one I used to hear about all the time but no one talks about anymore. I am still curious!
Space Opera by Catherynne M. Valente is a book I have started and stopped so many times but I am still determined to read it!
Can you believe I haven’t read The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune? It will be happening in February because I am participating in a buddy read on Instagram.
You Will Miss Me When I’m Gone by Rachel Lynn Solomon is newer to my shelves but I have had my eyes on it for awhile. Solomon’s books are becoming more and more popular, so I really want to get to this one even though I have heard it is heartbreaking!
I have two of Nora Roberts’ fantasy books. Of Blood and Bone is the sequel to Year One, which I was so surprised by, and The Awakening is the start of her new series!
I have been saying that I wanted to read American Gods by Neil Gaiman since I started this blog and I have had it on my shelves for even longer then that. Maybe having it on my TBR shelf will make it more likely that I will actually pick it up?
If You Want to Make God Laugh by Bianca Marais is a signed copy and I read her debut in 2020 and adored it. I have been told this book is even better!
Meg Wolitzer is an author I have been meaning to read from for ages now! I know next to nothing about The Interestings, but I am curious about her writing.
The Girl With the Louding Voice was so many readers’ favourite book of 2020, so I just know I am going to love it.
Much like Wolitzer, Barbara Kingslover is an author I have been wanting to read from. I found The Lacuna is a little free library, so that was a great find!
The Labyrinth of Spirits by Carlos Ruiz Zafon is the fourth book in the series and I haven’t even read The Shadow of the Wind, but I have heard that the books can be read out of order.
The English Patient by Michael Odaantje is one of my mom’s favourite movies, so I told her I would read the book and then watch the movie with her, but that just hasn’t happened!
I read Lauren Groff’s short story collection, Florida, last summer and I am excited to read more from her! Fates and Furies gets mixed reviews but a lot of readers who have similar tastes as I do have loved it.

OMG, I love that you have actual TBR carts! And very intrigued to see Blonde on it, because once I heard Ana de Armas was going to portray Marilyn, I was very curious. Can’t quite picture her in that role just yet, but she’ll probably pull it off somehow.
I was surprised by the casting as well but I saw a photo from the set and she really does look like Marilyn! I’ve only seen Ana in Knives Out and thought she was great so I have hope!
Is it bad to say I don’t organize it? I just have an idea in the back of my mind and when I have space between reading ARCs and other books I owe reviews on, I’ll grab one of them. I love how you have TBR carts!

I don’t have a TBR cart or anything like that, I do have a little tote that I got for Christmas and all my unread classics are in that, but I don’t actually have a TBR, I’m too much of a mood reader to have a TBR.

I recognize so many of these, but I think the only one that I also own a hardcopy of is Labyrinth of Spirits .. I was so excited to buy it and I still haven’t’ read it. Whoops. I love seeing these book carts, they’re so cute!

That is a good question! I think the first one I pick up will be The House in the Cerulean Sea because of the buddy read and it is just calling to me.
