Read, Rewrite, Donate Tag

It has been awhile since I did this tag, and it is always so much fun! I am going to use a few of the books I read in 2020- most of which I loved, so this will be tough!!

THE RULES:

  • Randomly choose 3 books
  • For each group, decide which book to burn, which one to rewrite, and which to reread (like Marry, Boff, Kill).
  • Repeat until you completed three rounds (or six) (or however many you want to do).

Reread: Sadie

Rewrite: An Absolutely Remarkable Thing

Donate: In a Holidaze

Sadie is one of the best audiobooks I have ever listened to. I don’t think there is much I would change about it. It is exactly the kind of hard-hitting and dark YA that I love.

An Absolutely Remarkable Thing took me by surprise. There was so much that I love about it and the conversation that it brought up. I in no way think it needs a rewrite, but some of the humour didn’t land for me so that is one thing I would change.

In a Holidaze was a cute romance, but it wasn’t my favourite and it is not a book I need on my shelves. I thought that the romance was going a different way and wish Christina Lauren had explored that option a bit more- that is all I will say!

Reread: Anxious People

Rewrite: A Thousand Ships

Donate: The Wives

Anxious People was not at all what I expected but I loved it for that reason. It was such an interesting blend of heartbreaking, heartwarming, and downright hilarious. Backman has such a unique way of storytelling and there is nothing I would change!

A Thousand Ships was one of my favourite books of 2020, so it may be a surprise to see that I chose to rewrite it! The book is so incredible, but I do wish that Helen’s perspective was explored more. I mean, she has the face that launched a thousand ships, but we don’t really hear from her. Instead, we get everyone else’s opinions of her, which was still interesting in its own way.

The Wives was my least favourite book of 2020, so this was an easy choice!

Reread: Hamnet

Rewrite: Sex and Vanity

Donate: Home Before Dark

Hamnet is a perfect book in my opinion. It is so beautifully written and is a book that slowly grows on you. I wouldn’t touch a word of it!

I thought that the first half of Sex and Vanity was so entertaining and vivid, but the second half could have done with a complete rewrite. I understand what Kevin Kwan was going for, but the main character felt like someone completely different in the second half than in the first. I did enjoy it overall though!

Home After Dark was fine. I just haven’t loved any of Riley Sager’s thrillers and I didn’t think that this book did anything memorable.

Reread: Plain Bad Heroines

Rewrite: Skyhunter

Donate: The Sun Down Motel

*This was the hardest one for me because I absolutely adore all three of these books!*

I think there is an argument for rewriting parts of Plain Bad Heroines because it was long and there was a lot going on, but I adored and appreciated every single second. One of my favourite books!

Skyhunter was one of the books that made me fall in love with fantasy last year. I would have loved for it to be a little longer and to expand on the world some more, but I am sure that will happen in the sequel.

The Sun Down Motel is one of my favourite mysteries, so this pains me. I will say that I also read The Broken Girls last year and I may have liked that book even more.

  1. So I tried guessing each of your re-reads before scrolling down to see which one you’ll read and haha got anxious people, hamnet and sadie right!!! I have always said it, and I will say it again – I legit love your reading choicesss!!

  2. Much better to donate than to burn! Even if you don’t like a book, someone else might! (I’m with you on Hamnet and Anxious People, but I think you know that already)!

  3. Ooh, what a super fun tag! I might have to steal this one for some point in the future 😂 I saw Hamnet on a lot of peoples’ favourites list for 2020 and I had never heard of it until these lists came out but I’m really keen to check it out this year. Same goes for Plain Bad Heroines–it sounds so good!

  4. Loved Sadie! I could never do anything to it- it’s perfect. Curious about an absolutely remarkable thing. I felt the same about in a holidaze. really want to read anxious people and thousand ships too- so glad you liked both of those! And I’ve only heard bad things about the wives!

  5. Anxious People is on my TBR and I hope to get to it in the first few months of 2021. I love this idea thou of read, rewrite, donate, great post 🙂
