The Storygraph has been a gamechanger for me in 2020, especially as someone who appreciates a good graph. In the past, I have created my own graphs at the end of the year, but now The Storygraph does it for me, which is amazing. I love this site so much that I became an early bird supporter. I thought it would be fun to share my reading stats with you!
This mood chart is probably my favourite chart that The Storygraph does! I think that it perfectly captures what my reading was like in 2020. It was a good mix of emotional/dark books and more lighthearted ones. I really wish I read more hopeful books, because they were needed this year!
I am not at all surprised by this chart! I tend to be more drawn to books that are medium or slow paced, and I think that is a result of loving character driven novels. I also think most books would fall into the medium-paced cateogry!
Most books fall into that 300-499 pages category, so no surprises there! I secretly wanted to read one 500+ page book a month, but I only managed to read 9, which I am still happy about. Some of my favourite books are under 300 pages, but I was still surprised to see that I read 32 books in that category. That said, my average page number is 336, which is up from 304 in 2019.
I read only 16 nonfiction titles in 2020, but I ended up rating seven of them five stars. I think that says something about my love of nonfiction and how I need to make it a priority in 2021. There are so many nonfiction books on my TBR that I know I am going to love!
Contemporary is my favourite genre, so of course it tops this list! That said, there are some surprises here. The fact that romance, mystery, fantasy, and thriller are so high is not what I would have anticipated at the beginning of 2020. I really embraced these genres this year and I have found what I love in each of them. It has been a journey, but I am loving it!
It is also shocking to see that I read 10 horror novels in 2020! I am completely new to the genre, but I cannot wait to explore it more in 2021.
I typically read more literary fiction, but I haven’t been in the right head space for it lately. I also think that a few of the books in the contemporary category could also been considered literary fiction.
Another amazing thing about The Storygraph is that there are half and quarter star ratings! This is something that readers have been asking Goodreads to include for years, and it really is a gamechanger!
I tend to rate a lot of books 4 stars, but having so many five star reads really delights me. I found so many new all time favourite books in 2020!

I love graphs from the storygraph! I wasn’t very faithful in remembering to update that site, though, so my graphs aren’t all that accurate. I’m making it a point to keep up with it this year, though, so I can have these beautiful reports!
The site official launches today, which is exciting! It did take me awhile to remember to add it to my return after just using Goodreads for so many years.

So I have barely figured out how to use The Storygraph (I created an account and imported by GR books and that’s it) but these charts are AMAZING! Especially the “mood” and “pace” charts, I have never seen that before!

I’ve seen several people saying they read a lot more romance than usual. Romance is my favorite genre so it doesn’t surprise me that it was my top read genre.

Oooh I loved reading your reading stats! The mood ones and pace ones are so interesting! I made an account on Storygraph recently so I am super excited to try and use it more this upcoming year in combo with my spreadsheet (and probanly Goodreads still).
