Most Anticipated YA Novels of 2021

I have shared some of my most anticipated YA romances of 2021, but there are so many amazing YA novels within other genres coming out in 2021, that I of course had to talk about them in a separate post. My “most anticipated” shelf on Goodreads has never been this long! I have to point out that my number one most anticipated YA book of 2021 is the sequel to Raybearer, but there is no title, cover, or synopsis available yet. The same goes for White Smoke by Tiffany D. Jackson and the sequel to Skyhunter by Marie Lu.

It is a truth universally acknowledged that a young woman who desires a law career must be in want of a case. So when seventeen-year-old Lizzie Bennet hears about a scandalous society murder, she sees an opportunity to prove herself as a solicitor by solving the case and ensuring justice is served.

Except the man accused of the crime already has a lawyer on his side: Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy, the stern young heir to the prestigious Pemberley Associates law firm. Lizzie is determined to solve the murder before Darcy can so that she can show the world that a woman can be just as good as a man. (The fact that Darcy is an infuriating snob doesn’t help.) But there’s still a killer on the loose, and as the case gets more complicated, Lizzie and Darcy may have to start working together to avoid becoming the next victims themselves.

As much as I love Pride and Prejudice, I am not often compelled to read retellings. There have been many over the years, but Pride and Premeditation is the most intriguing to me. I love the idea of Elizabeth and Darcy working together to solve a murder. As this is a Pride and Prejudice retelling, I am sure that I could have included in on my “most anticipated YA romance” list, but it is the mystery element that excites me about this one!

The synopsis for The Cost of Knowing tells me that this is going to a be a deeply emotional story. It appears to be a hard-hitting contemporary novel with a magical realism twist. I adore magical realism and hard-hitting contemporaries, so having them blend together in one story very much appeals to me. This book is a high priority for me!

The Girls I’ve Been will be my first book from Tess Sharpe, but I remember Far From You being extremely popular and it is on my list. There seems to be a lot going on in this story with a hostage situation and the main character’s mother being a con artist. Sounds like it is going to be one of those tense, edge-of-your-seat kind of stories.

Life’s not perfect, but with a fly girlfriend and a cousin who always has his back, Mav’s got everything under control.

Until, that is, Maverick finds out he’s a father.

Suddenly he has a baby, Seven, who depends on him for everything. But it’s not so easy to sling dope, finish school, and raise a child. So when he’s offered the chance to go straight, he takes it. In a world where he’s expected to amount to nothing, maybe Mav can prove he’s different.

When King Lord blood runs through your veins, though, you can’t just walk away. Loyalty, revenge, and responsibility threaten to tear Mav apart, especially after the brutal murder of a loved one. He’ll have to figure out for himself what it really means to be a man.

I think that Concrete Rose will be on many “most anticipated” lists! It is a prequel to The Hate U Give, and I cannot wait to learn more about Mav’s story.

The Mirror Season

When two teens discover that they were both sexually assaulted at the same party, they develop a cautious friendship through her family’s possibly-magical pastelera, his secret forest of otherworldly trees, and the swallows returning to their hometown, in Anna-Marie McLemore’s The Mirror Season

Graciela Cristales’ whole world changes after she and a boy she barely knows are assaulted at the same party. She loses her gift for making enchanted pan dulce. Neighborhood trees vanish overnight, while mirrored glass appears, bringing reckless magic with it. And Ciela is haunted by what happened to her, and what happened to the boy whose name she never learned.

But when the boy, Lock, shows up at Ciela’s school, he has no memory of that night, and no clue that a single piece of mirrored glass is taking his life apart. Ciela decides to help him, which means hiding the truth about that night. Because Ciela knows who assaulted her, and him. And she knows that her survival, and his, depend on no one finding out what really happened.

Wild Beauty is one of the most beautiful books I have ever read, and I keep saying I want to read more from Anna-Marie McLemore, but then I never do. I think that The Mirror Season is the one that will finally get me to read some else from them. From the synopsis, I know that this is going to be a difficult read, but I trust McLemore.

Are any of these on your radar?

  1. Before reading your post, I was looking forward to Lore & Witches Steeped in Gold, and now The Infinity Courts has been added to my radar! Thanks for the list and another one to be excited about! 🙂

  2. So many good books coming!
I’m very curious to The Iron Raven, especially if I remember enough to just read this, or if I should do a reread haha!
