POPSUGAR Reading Challenge (Part Two) (Blogmas Day 7)

This is part two of my POPSUGAR Reading Challenge TBR. I know I won’t stick to this list 100%, but I think it will be helpful for me to reference throughout the year and to keep me on track. I would love to know if you are always participating!

26. A book with an oxymoron in the title

This was a tough one! I really struggled to come up with a book that would work and this may be a bit of a stretch, but there is something about the title A History of What Comes Next that I think could be considered an oxymoron. History is about the past not the future- does that make sense?

27. A book about do-overs or fresh starts

The title is what gives me the impression that Second First Impressions is about fresh starts! I think that is a safe assumption. I really love The Hating Game by the same author, but I heard mixed things about her last book. I am curious to see what I think of this one! I guess this one could work for the oxymoron prompt as well…

28. A magical realism book

I have heard so many incredible things about The Shadow of the Wind. I have this feeling that it is going to become a new favourite for me.

29. A book set in multiple countries

Pachinko is a book I have been meaning to read since it came out. I think it will work for many of the prompts this year. It sounds like the kind of book I will love, and from what I can tell it is set in both Korea and Japan.

30. A book set somewhere you’d like to visit in 2021

I do not think I will be doing much travelling next year, but my brother lives in Toronto so it would be nice to visit at some point in 2021. I am not sure if that will happen, at least not anytime soon. I am pretty sure that Ayesha at Last is set in Toronto and it is also a Pride and Prejudice retelling. That is all I need to know!

31. A book by a blogger, vlogger, YouTube video creator, or other online personality

Jenny Lawson has an award-winning blog, and I loved her memoir Furiously Happy. She has a new book coming out next year called Broken, and the fact that it is by Jenny Lawson plus looking at the cover tells me that it is something I am going to love! I would also like to read A Beautifully Foolish Endeavor by Hank Green, which also works for this prompt.

32. A book whose title starts with “Q,” “X,” or “Z”

XOXO comes out next year and I am so excited about it! It sounds adorable and the love interest is famous, which you know I love in my romances!

33. A book featuring three generations (grandparent, parent, child)

Will this be the year I finally read East of Eden? I have been putting it off for years even though I know I am going to love it! It is just so long…

34. A book about a social justice issue

I meant to read Invisible Women this year, but I haven’t been in the mood for nonfiction lately. I really hope that that changes in the new year! I have heard that this book is extremely eyeopening and infuriating.

35. A book in a different format than what you normally read (audiobooks, ebooks, graphic novels)

I read books in most formats, but the one I do not read a lot of is graphic novels. I do enjoy them but I never think to pick them up. Something I really love is when classic novels are turned into graphic novels. I am really excited about this The Great Gatsby one!

36. A book that has fewer than 1,000 reviews on Amazon or Goodreads

I think this is one that I cannot plan ahead!

37. A book you think your best friend would like

My friend is not a huge reader, but when he does pick up a book it is normally a thriller. There is something about White Ivy that makes me think he would love it. I have been hearing some great things lately!

38. A book about art or an artist

I am so intrigued by the premise of this one! Obviously the title is a nod to The Talented Mr. Ripley, and the main character in this story is such a huge art lover that she begins to embezzle in order to fund her art habit. Doesn’t that sound interesting!?

39. A book everyone seems to have read but you

I have been meaning to read The Starless Sea since it was released! I wasn’t a huge fan of The Night Circus, so I think that is why I have been putting this one off. However, there is still something about it that is calling my name!

40. Your favorite prompt from a past POPSUGAR Reading Challenge

“A Book With a Question in the Title”

I will read anything that N.K. Jemisin writes. I am hoping to get through a large portion of her backlist in 2021!

41. The longest book (by pages) on your TBR list

I tend to avoid big books, so I am happy that I didn’t have War and Peace or Les Miserable on my TBR. 1Q84 comes in at 925 pages and is one have been wanting to read. I have the audiobook, so hopefully that will help me get through it!

42. The shortest book (by pages) on your TBR list

Can you believe I have read anything by Zadie Smith? She wrote Intimations during the lock down and it is only 97 pages. I think this will be a good way to get a feel for her writing!

43. The book on your TBR list with the prettiest cover

I am sure that I have prettier books on my TBR, but The Binding was the first one that came to mind. It is so stunning in person- this picture does not do it justice!

44. The book on your TBR list with the ugliest cover

Stardust doesn’t have a horrible cover, but I hate that half of it is taken up my a blurb. I have never seen that before and I am not a fan! Excited to read this one though. I have been wanting to read more from Neil Gaiman, as you will see from my choice for the next prompt.

45. The book that’s been on your TBR list for the longest amount of time

I think I have said I wanted to read American Gods every few months since I started my blog in 2017. I have own in for years and it taunts me on my shelves. I have no excuses!

46. A book from your TBR list you meant to read last year but didn’t

I have heard amazing things about A Place For Us and I have a feeling I will love it. I wanted to read it this summer and even started it but got distracted by something else. I was enjoying it, so I am excited to get back to it in 2021!

47. A book from your TBR list you associate with a favorite person, place, or thing

I read the first book in this series, The Eyre Affair, earlier this year and adored it. I am so excited to continue with the series! Of course the thing that I associate this book with is books- my favourite thing!

48. A book from your TBR list chosen at random

Obviously, this will have to be done next year.

49. A DNF book from your TBR list

I got about 50% of the way through Space Opera and it was just too much. I am not a fan of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, and this book was giving me the same vibes. I really have to be in the mood for that type of humour. I was intrigued by the premise though, so I would like to try again next year!

50. A free book from your TBR list (gifted, borrowed, library)

Another one I will have to choose next year!
