a popular book everyone loves but you have no interest in reading?
Beach Read seems to get a lot of mixed reviews, and it just isn’t something that I see myself prioritizing!
a classic book/author you don’t have an interest in reading?
Other than rereading A Christmas Carol, I don’t think I will ever read anything else by Charles Dickens. Not my thing!
an author whose books you have no interest in reading?
I know that Colleen Hoover’s books are beloved, but none of them appeal to me. I love romance, but her books do not seem like the kind of romance that I am drawn to.
a problematic author whose books you have no interest in reading?
I never had an interested in Thirteen Reasons Why, either the book or the show- I think they would be too triggering for me. Also, I have read a few articles about Jay Asher being accused of sexual harassment, so I will never pick up a book by him.
an author you have read a couple books from and decided their books are not for you?
I have tried a few books from V.E. Schwab and her writing style just does not work for me! It is too bad because I think that she comes up with some of the most original premises, but at some point I just have to move on and stop trying.
a genre you have no interest in OR genre you tried and couldn’t get into?
I don’t think I have an answer for this one! I used to say horror, but I have really embraced it this year. I might even share some of my favourites in a future post.
a book you bought but will never read OR a library book you borrowed but returned unread?
Let’s be honest, I bought this edition of An Encyclopedia of Tolkien because is it stunning! As much as I enjoyed The Lord of the Rings, I don’t see myself actually making my way through the encyclopedia, but it is beautifully illustrated and fun to flip through.
a series you have no interest in reading OR a series you started but have dnf’d?
I have read Crescent City for a buddy read on Instagram, and I think that will be my first and last Sarah J. Maas book. They are just not the kind of fantasy that I enjoy. I do sometimes feel like I am missing out though because people talk about all her books all the time!
a new release you have no interest in reading?
I tried reading The Lunar Chronicles, and I just could not get into it. I don’t think that I click with Marissa Meyer’s writing style, and I have also seen some mixed reviews for her newest release, Instant Karma.

I agree with a lot of these! SJM’s series, I see them everywhere but I have no interest in them. I’ve also had difficulty with Schwab, but I’m hoping her new release will change that! I just started reading Colleen Hoover this year, and I enjoy her books, although they can be hard to get through because of the subject matter.
I think hype can affect my reading sometimes, so when I series like SJM’s gets so much hype I just know I will be disappointed.
I have heard some great things about Schwab’s newest release. I am curious to see what you think!
I’m the exact same about VE Schwab! I want to like her books… I’ve tried, but I just can’t!
I know! I can’t even put my finger on what it is that I don’t like about them.
There are times when it’s great to read something that doesn’t seem to appeal or it’s not your normal areas of reading. Yes, you may find you were right and that particular genre or author doesn’t work for you, but you also open the possibility of finding something brilliant you would never have found without taking that chance.
I agree! That is why I try to read from every genre. I always find something I love within pretty much every genre I read.
I really like this post idea, and I have to agree with some of the answers you gave. especially 13 Reasons Why. I tried watching the show (like one episode) and read about some of the absolutely horrific and disgusting things they chose to include and I will not go near that ever again. Pretty gross to learn the author has also been accused of predatory behavior.
Yes! I entire premise of Thirteen Reasons Why made me uncomfortable, and the fact that those accusations have been made against Jay Asher just adds to that.
It’s honestly a very irresponsible way to handle such a sensitive topic, in my opinion. I think it’s smart you chose to avoid it.

Couldn’t agree more about Thirteen Reasons Why! Never have read the book, nor seen the Netflix show and don’t plan to either 🙁 This is a really cool book tag by the way 😀

Great list! I actually really enjoyed Beach Read. It felt like a unique take on the romance genre — and it was a nice, easy read 🙂 A TALE OF TWO CITIES IS ONE OF MY FAVOURITE NOVELS! I’m sad you don’t think you’ll read it, but that’s okay. It’s such a great story!
I’m not interested in Colleen Hoover either … don’t know why … just not. Thirteen Reasons Why is not on my list either … I hope that claim about the author isn’t true …
I have YET to read a Maas book … and I don’t really feel the urge to read the Throne of Glass or that other series. I AM interested in the one you mentioned though. Maybe I’ll get to it.
Loved hearing all your thoughts on these. I never hear anyone talk about A Tale of Two Cities, so I love that loved it!
I’d be curious to see what you think of Crescent City. It is such a huge book though!
It’s honestly one of his bests IMO! I know …. it’s daunting how big it is haha!
Schwab and I don’t mix either. She tends to have great ideas but iffy execution. Have to say you aren’t missing anything with Beach Read either. Pretty much the same as Schwab a good idea that goes off the rails!
I wish I liked her writing more. She comes up with such creative ideas!

I totally agree with Colleen Hoover. I read “it ends with us” and I just didn’t love it.. but all the reviews RAVED about it!
But I just started “the invisible life of Addie LaRue” this month by V.E Schwabb and I LOVE it so far! I have not read any of their other works though..

I feel the same about Maas’s books. I feel like I’m missing out. But I read two of her Throne of Glass books and didn’t like them enough to want to read more from her.
I wish it was something I was into because I don’t get any of the references. Glad I’m not the only one!
