Currently Reading
I started Hamnet & Judith a couple weeks ago, but I found myself distracted by other books and I wanted to give this one the attention that it deserves. I am now about halfway through, and I adore it. Maggie O’Farrell’s writing is so lush and this period of history is something I know very little about, so that is compelling. I am realizing that I adore historical fiction where the author writes about real people- in this case, Shakespeare’s family.
I know that Pandemic 1918 will not be a book that everyone would want to turn to right now, but I am finding it fascinating. I am not very far into the audiobook, so I cannot tell you much more than that. I appreciate that the book includes firsthand accounts.
Just Finished
I know that Someone Inside Your House has mixed reviews, so I think going into it with low expectations helped me to enjoy it more. I didn’t take it too seriously and was looking for a fast-paced teen slasher-type novel, and that is exactly what I got. It was an interesting mix of slasher and romance, but it was a fun read overall. It is one of those books I would recommend if you are finding yourself in a reading slump. I read this for a buddy group on Instagram, so I am curious to see what others have to say about it.
Marie Lu never disappoints! While there are some YA fantasy cliches in this book and some of it was predictable, I thought it was fast-paced and compelling. What shone for me was the characters. which is always most important for me in a novel. I loved the found family element and the fact that there is a hint of a romance but it is definitely a slow burn. I cannot wait for the next book in the series!
Reading Next
I have read some incredible reviews for Bestiary. The way that readers describe it really sounds incredible. The first few lines from the synopsis are all I needed to read to know that this was a book for me:

Pandemic 1918 may be just what we need to knock some sense into people who insist that “it’s just a flu.”
You are speaking truths!
I can’t even be mad at you for adding to my TBR because they’re always such awesome sounding suggestions! I’m a bit of a sucker for getting into stories that most people wouldn’t be comfortable with at that time, so Pandemic 1918 sounds especially intriguing.
Since I’ve just read the last ARC I have for 2020, I can say definitively that Hamnet (with or without the US inclusion of Judith) is my favorite book of the year! Enjoy…
